“Take A Number – Remix,” the new release from the rising pop country rapper Livvy D (Olivia Dunbar), featuring C4. Benard and songwriter Kenna Page, is an incredible new version of “Take A Number,” said to be the dating anthem for this summer.

Adding C4. Benard to the Remix provides a fun twist with a male perspective.

The song is Livvy D’s pop-country-rap-version of what she calls “the weird world of dating.”

“‘Take a Number’ is a fun song everybody can relate to,” she says. “It’s also about the end of a bad relationship, or a few bad relationships I’ve been in, and how I’m better off without them anyway.”

The Remix features rappers C4. Benard in a hip hop-rap-pop dialogue of two sides — his and hers — to the dating scene.

“It’s his perspective, her perspective,” she said, “but they’re not against each other. The listener is going to be the one who determines how they interpret the song.”

“Take a Number” was co-written by Aben Eubanks, a Grammy-nominated musician, songwriter, composer and producer. He is a guitarist and songwriter for Kelly Clarkson.

In the original release, earlier this year, the song was “more the woman’s perspective,” said Livvy D. That version switches back and forth from pop to rap and came with the country flavor that infuses the Remix.

Both renditions are light-hearted, creative versions of the love-gone-bad song.

Her unique style was influenced by the music of Cardi B, Doja Cat, and Lizzo because, she said, “They wholeheartedly believe in their music, and their message conveys power to their audience, something I also hope to do.”

She grew up listening to all kinds of music, beginning in the womb, when her mother put headphones on her belly to feed classical music to her unborn daughter.

Livvy D, just launching her career as a singing artist, is working with a powerhouse team. Producer and writer Eric “EJ” Johnson has worked for more than 15 years with many Universal Music and Atlantic Records artists as well as major independent artists across the country.

Her songs are recorded and mixed at Tom Weir’s Studio City Sound in Los Angeles. Weir is a Grammy-winning mixer, engineer and producer who has made it to No. 1 on the Billboard list.

She takes inspiration from everyday life and expresses different facets of her identity in each of her songs.

Livvy D was raised on a horse farm in rural Virginia. Riding horses, dancing and making music have always been parts of her life.

She has also been interested in fashion, and as a child put together her own home fashion shows and choreographed dance routines. One of her recent releases, “Gucci,” is a rap banger that she calls “a tribute to the designer life.”

“Boujee from birth,” she says, using a regional term to describe something upscale and luxurious. It is an apt description of her brand, evident in her videos. She says she can be found as easily on a horse as “on a shopping spree, chilling at a swank L.A. hotel or in the studio.”

She says she wants to inspire her fans to “embrace their individuality and creativity.”

“Be yourself, be authentic and creative, and have fun,” she said. “Be you, not who everyone else thinks you should be, and always believe in yourself, even when people tell you otherwise. Be strong. Be kind. Be creative. Be inspired. Be different. Be you.”

SINGER SONGWRITER SAM WELCH RETURNS TO THE SHOW AND TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW ALBUM "LAST NIGHT ON EARTH" AND SINGLE "KAMIKAZE CO-PILOT" AND MUCH MORE

Sam Welch’s “Kamikaze Co-Pilot,” and its album, achieve transcendental playfulness

SAM WELCH - 7/28/23 (27:25)

By Kurt Beyers

Sam Welch, by design, does not do easy-listening music to create moods or feelings. The lyrics and music go need listening. He wants his audience to put some work into his songs.

Though the lyrics are about thoughts — metaphysics, if you will — and deal with things like relationships, life, death and the hereafter, his music gives a wry twist that makes thinking interesting, trending toward fun.

And worth the work.

As an example, “Kamikaze Co-Pilot,” the single he is featuring from his new album, Last Night on Earth. Right there, in the two titles, you can see the metaphysical and the twist at work.

This is Sam talking about the message, or messages, of “Kamikaze”: “I’ve defined my own philosophical interpretation of this song, and I’m calling it ‘social existentialism.’ Basically, it’s the idea that every relationship will come to an end, this idea that everybody’s on the same journey to their destiny, but that the journey in and of itself will divide us and separate us.”

Sounds heavy, but the song begins with his voice, a high-register, floating, ethereal vocalization set to a ringing instrumental that rises for three notes, falls back, and drums enter with an upbeat tempo. Ten seconds later, a saxophone leads in the lyrics:

Kamikaze co-pilot the future can’t come soon enough

Kamikaze co-pilot well this world is getting tough

Gonna fly away with you it’s the past that I rue

Gonna fly away it ain’t the future that is true

“I think if I had done a really, really sort of hard techno, unrelentingly loud or aggressive, it wouldn’t support the themes that I’m exploring,” said Sam.

“Kamikaze co-pilot,” he pointed out, is an oxymoron. Who in their right mind would co-pilot with someone on a suicide mission? And yet, he says, human relationships and life, composed of individuals, are like that.

But Last Night on Earth does not preach, it explores.

His music, too, is an exploration. His previous output, which he called “transcendental techno vox,” is giving way to more melody and instrumentation and less harmonization and vocal distortion. The transcendental remains, but the techno is much reduced.

Sam has begun to play with his voice and his music. One song on the album, “Man in My Mind,” could pass for a dance track.

His vocals, almost entirely undoubled and undistorted, are much more prominent in each of the 11 tracks. Fewer mixed harmonies and more of his own voice have been goals

“In each of these songs, I’ve provided a lead vocal melody line, a solo voice. I think I’m doing a good job of controlling the urge to just create more harmonization.”

“I think every album that I do is better than the album before,” he said. “I’m always trying to improve the quality of my music, and I feel like I’ve definitely reached some new goals in terms of this album. I have worked very hard on trying to create a very organic sound that supports the very, very rich themes that I’m exploring poetically. The two things support each other.”

Another goal, to produce an album each year, has been reached every year, beginning in 2017. He had several albums before that, including one called Unitarian Hymns, in 2005.

He has studied piano since age 8 and received voice training at Columbia University and the Longy School of Music. He started a barbershop quartet in high school and participated in classical chorus performances and theater. At Columbia, he toured with the male a cappella group The Kingsmen. He has written and recorded music since 2001. This year, he has begun live performances.

In his music, he explores “the convergence between themes of spiritual transcendence and emotional disregulation.” He knows the first through his life as a practicing Unitarian and the second from his own bouts with depression and psychosis as a young man.

“‘Kamikaze Co-Pilot,’ the headliner for the album, is sort of about humanity and relationships and destiny and the misfortune of having to die, which we all do,” he said. “It’s more relationship oriented than I’ve been in the past, but still with the emphasis on transcendence and moving along.”

In Last Night on Earth,  consideration of relationships, transcendence, “emotional disregulation,” life, eternity, all come together, poetically, musically, playfully.

PRODUCER, WRITER, RECORDING ARTIST JIMMY HARRIS OF 'JIMINY' TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW ALBUM "APOCALYPSE DANCE PARTY" AND MUCH MORE!

Jiminy is uniquely dark and danceable with new album Apocalypse Dance Party

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST BELOW!

JIMMY HARRIS - JIMINY (31:54)

By Jenna Gengler

Jiminy have been weaving their way through the music scene by deconstructing genre tropes and reassembling them into catchy dance songs. An international collective based in Brooklyn and led by songwriter Jimmy Harris from his experience writing Electronic, Rock, and Chamber Pop music, they have cultivated a unique and intriguing sound. This latest incarnation manifests in the macabre dance magic that is Apocalypse Dance Party, and this time around they invite their audience to dance like there is no tomorrow.

With natural disasters, the pandemic, humanity at the mercy of technology, and the existential threats of nuclear war and global warming, it is understandable to feel humanity has passed the point of no return. With Apocalypse Dance Party, Jiminy has channeled these modern and age-old anxieties into a set of overlapping dance tracks. The festivities start with a devil-may-care attitude and grow progressively darker in tone and serious in subject matter.

The Apocalypse Dance Party begins with a killer dance party track that does a brilliant job of representing the chaotic excitement that came from feeling like the world was coming to an end. “Conflating paradise and hell, celebration and destruction, is the point,” he said. “The visual of calamari pouring down from a tsunami is atrocious and absurd, with a hint of social satire bubbling up.”

It was this idea that led Jiminy to his Apocalyptic new album. “People are endlessly fascinated by the idea of the world ending,” Jiminy said. “It’s a reflection of our collective fears, and maybe also a desire for control in an unpredictable world. I find it interesting that generations throughout recorded history have their own versions. The end of all time is a never-ending story, found in ancient mythology and prevalent in Pop Culture.”

Introduced by our paradise-weary narrator, the dance set explores increasingly dark soundscapes and subjects, all guiding you towards one main idea. “What is the point of life if it’s all coming to an end? Is that where meaning is found - in the here and now? If the world were truly ending, what would you do?” The answer may just be this: scream and cheer at the same time, and dance like there is no tomorrow. In other words, if we’re going down, we’re getting down.

Following the release of Apocalypse Dance Party, Jiminy is excited for two big things. The first is the sequential release of videos to go along with each song on the album, something his audience can look forward to soon. The second is being able to take a breather and enjoy the summer. “I already have an idea on what the next album is going to look like, but I really like to let things like this simmer,” he explained.

While we wait for the next exciting project to come from Jiminy, there is a collection of his earlier works to check out and a full social media to keep up with.

By: Nadia Sobehart

Texas-based hip-hop artist, Say Tony, is set to release his latest project, an 11-track album called PO$ITIVE MANNER. Coming out July 7, 2023, the album features a mix of genres from R&B to house, with hip hop purely at the core.

“What inspired me to write the album was just trying to show my versatility on different songs while staying true to myself. I want listeners to know that regardless of things you may deal with, it’s best to worry about controlling your response to it vs. trying to control what’s happening,” shares the artist of his latest work.

The album features singles “Trap Poet” and “Feel Good.” “Trap Poet,” was created through a collaboration with his producer. “I was inspired by an Instagram snippet that clicked for me, so I took it to my producer who helped me see the vision through.” As for the other 10 songs on the album, “I hand selected beats that fit the sound I was shooting for,” shares the artist.

“I’ve always loved music. It’s everything for me,” shares Say Tony. “I don’t recall one point in my life where I feel like it was quiet. As life went on, I tapped more into my creativity and found music as a way of expressing myself.”

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Say Tony began making music around the summer of 2021 in Dallas, Texas, where he currently resides. While Say Tony began working on his album long before, he was motivated to finish his project when his father passed in January 2023. “He taught me to follow my intuition,” shares Say Tony. It’s partly the artist’s intuition that has allowed him to stay authentic throughout his growth and career.

Music has always been a presence in Say Tony’s life. From early childhood to present day, it has played a huge role in his existence and identity. “I didn’t always write music, but I always had a love for it. I grew up with the music of my mother and father and was able to experience different eras of music. I grew up listening to music from my friends, family, parents, and environment. From my hometown artist, Nelly, to Naz, Tupac, JayZ, Biggie… the list goes on. Michael Jackson. Old school artists. I was inspired by a lot of different music.

In addition to expressing himself creatively, Say Tony has a larger purpose to writing music. “I want to impact listeners through more peace in themselves and peace from trying to control things. I want them to have more faith. People can allow things to control them and feel like things are dictated for them. But if they make the decision to go forth, they can live in a positive manner.”

This summer, Say Tony is looking forward to creating more visuals for his album before moving on to the next project. “I want to continue to grow and listen and learn. Making music is more than about the money—it’s about the purpose,” adds the artist.

Dead Hendrix Releases New Single ‘Mustang’ Featuring Yungcudii

By John Hacker

OTTAWA, Canada — With a mix of Dead Hendrix’s rap and punk rock sound and Yungcudii’s dash of street rap and R&B, Hendrix’s new single “Mustang” is sure to turn heads among fans and new listeners alike.

Released in March, the song features Dead Hendrix anchoring the beginning and end and Yungcudii tasking the middle of the song to a crescendo.

“Getting Yungcudii on it, he’s a very talented and respected artist here in my city. He does more like street rap, R&B kind of music. I wanted to get him on it after I recorded it because my team and I all thought it would be a hit,” Hendrix said. “My style is really unique the punk rock and the rap together, so I went like a whole year before I sent it to him because I thought aww, he’s not going to vibe with this, but I sent it to him a few months ago and he was like, yeah, I'm up with this, so he put his verse on it and just took it to a whole new level of the mix between the two genres and how you think that couldn’t work but it really does.”

Hendrix, or Hendi to his friends, said he got the beat from one of his producers and drove around with the beat playing loud to come up with the right lyrics and melody to go with it.

“My producer make very cool beats,” Hendrix said. “He’s from Russia and he has a really cool blend of punk rock and rap in his beats. I use different writing processes when I find a beat I really like. I just drive around and turn the volume way up and I just mess around with the melodies and the lyrics until something I find great happens. And that’s what I did here for ‘Mustang.’”

At age 21, Hendrix is a punk-rock-influenced rapper from the Centertown neighborhood in Ottawa, Canada’s capital.

he has been writing songs since he was under 10 years old. Drawing from real life experiences of struggle from heartbreak to drug abuse, Dead Hendrix aims to write his music as originally and as uniquely as possible.

Gaining more and more traction in Canada with his unique blend of rap and punk rock, Dead Hendrix then crossed borders and expanded his reach even further with the release of his collaboration EP, Dead Summer, along with live shows in Canada and the U.S., such as Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Hendrix said the message in “Mustang” is the feel of the music.

“A lot of my songs, I don’t really know what they mean until after but I think with Mustang there’s less of a literal message and more of like a vibe or a feeling to it,” Hendrix said. “It’s cerebral but it’s catchy. So it talked about those things that make you think that are kind of deep but it’s also something you can blast in the car and pump your head to.”

Hendrix said he'd like for “Mustang” to be a part of an album or EP that he'd like to release before the end of 2023.

In the meantime, keep an ear open for Dead Hendrix’s contribution to an album coming out later this month called Ottawa X Toronto, a crossover album featuring two of Canada’s music powerhouse cities.

ROSHAN SERESINHE FOUNDER OF COUNTRY MUSIC BAND NuAsia STOPS BY THE SHOW AND TALKS ABOUT THEIR NEW ALBUM "QUIET VIOLENCE" AND MORE!

NuAsia brings a new sound, a new love to country music, from Asia to America

By Kurt Beyers

NuAsia’s upcoming debut album, Quiet Violence, releasing June 9, will break some new ground in country music.

Judging from the title track, the album will draw a lot of country fans and create some new ones.

Most of the new ground, in case the band’s name doesn’t clue you in, is that all six of the musicians are of Asian heritage, by design of the band’s drummer, leader, executive producer, and founder, Roshan Seresinhe, who is a Sri Lankan native.

Another is the band’s lead singer and co-writer, Saint Cloud, a 22-year-old Boston woman of Vietnamese descent, whose voice can go from whispery and ethereal to clear and forceful. Roshan describes her voice as like Billy Eilish in her lower register and Taylor Swift at the high end.

Comparisons, certainly, are in the ear of the beholder, but equally certain is that Saint Cloud has complete artistic control of a beautiful voice with remarkable range from low to high.

Five of the album’s seven tracks cover the arc of a love story, beginning with the title track, “Quiet Violence,” a slow-tempo ballad in which Saint Cloud sings the beginnings of a love going bad.

Saint Cloud’s voice tells the story of the “quiet violence” of not being heard by her lover, the rich vocals and lush melody perfectly complementing each other.

The four succeeding tracks tell the story of recovered love, “Why Are You Back,” “Take Me Home,” “Lovesick ‘The Way I Am Loving You,’” and ending in a dance number, “Lost and Found (We’re OK).”

The album includes a cover of “Islands in the Stream,” an homage to the country legends who wrote it, Dolly Parton and the late Kenny Rogers.

“We completely reproduced it,” said Roshan, “but out of respect the melody has not been changed.” It features Justin Kawika Young, another musician of Asian descent.

The album closes with a dance tune celebration of America, “This Country of Mine,” and includes sentimental versions of two tracks.

“When I started the project, when I had the vision for the project, it was because we are all country loving musicians, but country pop, not blue grass or honky tonk.”

Four of the six members had strong careers as session musicians. Roshan has had cover bands on multiple continents.

“Part of the challenge when I disbanded my cover band,” he said, “is that you don’t find any Asian country bands. To my knowledge, there is only one Asian artist in Nashville that has done anything with country music, and he is a solo artist.”

Country songs are in the playlists of cover bands in all Asian countries, yet there is a perception that people of Asian descent don’t care for country music. This perception is shared by Asian people themselves.

So, he said, there’s a lot of Asian people who like country music, listen to country music, but since they think other Asian people don’t like it, they don’t talk about it.

The same dynamic was in the musicians Roshan was playing with in Southern California.

“Out of 50 songs we’ll play at a gig, we will play 15 country songs. So, I ask the rest of the band, I said, ‘Hey, it’s something that we enjoy playing, so I’m thinking maybe it’s a good niche to explore as we all seem to enjoy it.’”

He has assembled an extraordinary group with the goal of producing scintillating music to break through the stigma. The music NuAsia has produced for Quiet Violence shows this is the group to achieve Roshan’s goal.

Saint Cloud, who is Roshan’s co-writer on all the original songs on the album, has sung pop, R&B, trap and other genres, started busking in Boston and singing at open mic events around town. She has also been a contestant on “The Voice.”

Keyboardist Isamu McGregor, of Japanese descent, says Roshan, “is a jazz pianist and keyboard player of the first order” who has played all over the world in a variety of genres. He has also put out two well-received albums, Resonance and Live at the Baked Potato. For six years, Isamu was the tour band leader and keyboardist for country start Colbie Caillat.

Mark Flores, lead guitar, was born and raised in the Philippines. In addition to being a popular session musician, he is an audio engineer and has his own production company, Markflo Productions. He has played with several SoCal bands and worked in soul, funk, blues, classic rock, ’90s rock and R&B.

Dhammika “DJ” Jayasinghe, Sri Lanka, the bass guitarist, has played backup for more than 40 fellow Sri Lankan artists. He started playing at age 14 and moved to California at 18. Since his move, he has played with many Indian and Sri Lankan bands in Los Angeles.

Janesh Ruwanpathirana, like Roshan and DJ a native Sri Lankan, is a percussionist, songwriter and singer. He began playing in Western cover bands while in school in Sri Lanka and began playing in Los Angeles while working and going to school.

Roshan, at 62 the oldest member of the band, has played in, formed and led several cover bands in Los Angeles. He has also played in bands in the United Kingdom. He put aside music as a younger man to raise a family and establish himself professionally. After successfully achieving both goals, he started playing again 30 years ago.

For Roshan, forming a country band of musicians of Asian descent and recording original music is the realization of a dream he had from his younger days.

“The songs have been carefully designed to fit the story and mood of each song,” said Roshan. “We have string quartets, lap steels, pedal steels. I had this very unique sound I wanted to get out of the tracks, and I believe we achieved that richness while maintaining the traditions of country music.”

MUSICAN, PRODUCER, DIRECTOR "AYR MAJESTY" STOPS BY AND TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW ALBUM "JXNNA" AND MORE!

Musical Artist AYR Majesty Releases Dedicated Album, Jxnna

AYR MAJESTY (23:19)

By: Nadia Sobehart

Musician, producer, and director, AYR Majesty, creates music designed to “evoke emotions and enthrall hearts.” He recently released Jxnna, an experimental, dark album dedicated to a mysterious muse. “It’s a personal album,” shares the artist. “Stylistically, my album goes all over the place—I’m just creative like that.”

While balancing multiple genres and styles, the album tends toward R&B. Experimenting with a wide range of musical instruments and specialized vocal engineering, AYR Majesty is able to create a unique sound of his own. His passion for music drives him to create and share his personalized blend which captures the many genres he’s fond of.

“My favorite song off the album is ‘I’m Sorry.’ The album is a dedication to somebody that inspired me to start singing,” explains AYR Majesty. “There’s not a lot of ways you can show appreciation for people, but I felt this was a pretty good way. Most of my music is directed toward that person.”

Born in Los Angeles, the young artist had a nomadic childhood that also included bouts of homelessness. He grew used to being the “dreamy new kid.” “My first dream in life was to be one of the greats in the NFL,” shares AYR Majesty. “I spent several years pursuing that dream as a college quarterback in Texas.” It was during that period in his life that AYR Majesty began recording rap—much to his roommates’ dismay. It wasn’t until 2023 that the rapper transitioned to singing, which he once thought was “reserved for singers.” A fan of old Hollywood film, Ayr Majesty also focuses on directing and producing films.

When it comes to writing, AYR Majesty generally starts with instrumentals from one of the many producers he works with in Los Angeles. “I usually start with a beat, and then the ideas flow in from what I feel. Then I’ll write on top of that. Some songs I can finish in a few days. ‘I’m Sorry’ I did in one night.”

AYR Majesty is an artist who likes to “break the rules, innovate, and play creatively.” The musician cites Michael Jackson, Drake, and Kanye as artists he has drawn inspiration from over the years. The result of having boundless creativity is developing music that never sounds the same yet preserves a touch unique to the artist. AYR Majesty’s creativity isn’t only about surprising listeners with its freshness—he also seeks to resonate with them and connect on a level only music can reach.

“I like to be creative in general. And music has been with me the whole time. When I finally started singing, I had feedback from people who said they liked my voice. It made me realize I was too harsh on myself this whole time. So I dedicated this past year to finding my voice.”

“If anything, I want my listeners to know it’s okay to be honest and express yourself. If you try to be someone else, you’ll feel bad because you can’t be that person. At the end of the day, it’s not up to you if people like you—so just be yourself. This album is an expression—honest, open. I feel like that’s why I was able to do it. I wasn’t trying to be something, I was just saying what I felt.”

Following the release of Jxnna, AYR Majesty is looking forward to taking a step back from music and work on production. “I think this is probably the most difficult project I’ve worked on. It got to the point it was all I was thinking about. I’m glad it’s done, even if I’ll always find it unfinished since I’m a perfectionist.”

Make sure to stay connected to AYR Majesty on all platforms for new music, videos, and social posts.

ARTIST, ENGINEER & PRODUCER "BENJI CASINO" STOPS BY AND TALKS ABOUT HIS LATEST PROJECTS AND MORE!

‘It’s Benji Casino music, ain’t nothin’ like it’

BENJI CASINO 2 (21:55)

Benji Casino was in elementary school when he started making table beats in the lunchroom when he was bored.

Now he produces music professionally that is like no other in the industry.

Now his latest singles, “Mm Mm Mm” and “Moon Walking” celebrate and demonstrate his stream-of-consciousness style of writing and cross-genre sound that define “Benji Casino music.”

“When it comes to my song selection, if you listen to all my music, everything sounds different,” Benji Casino said. “There’s not just one sound. I did promo recently and I told the publicist ‘it’s Benji Casino music.’ It doesn’t sound like any other music but what it is. Only I can make music like this, it’s Benji Casino music.”

And Benji Casino music comes from a unique headspace shaped by growing up in the city of Cleveland, then moving to rural Ohio.

“I used to get into a lot of trouble up there so I moved out here,” Casino said. “It’s really in the middle of nowhere, I'm not gonna lie to you. I grew up in the city life but then I moved out into the country life and when I moved out here I found a different type of headspace, a more peaceful, enlightened headspace. I got to thinking about my life and how I can do better in the space that I’m in. I had to accept those and it just put me on a whole different plane.”

The single “Mm Mm Mm” is a song with deep personal meaning to Casino.

It’s a song about people who seemed to appear in his live when they wanted or needed something, but disappeared when he needed someone to lean on.

The song talks about how the singer is looking for authentic people who really care for him.

“At that time I felt like I had nobody,” Casino said. “And ‘Mm Mm Mm’ is the hook, me vocalizing is really just the hook and that’s how the whole song came together. I heard the beat and said ok, this is fire, let me really run this through the pro tools. I was singing Mmm Mmm, Mmm, and that’s where all the other lyrics came from.”

The song ‘Moon Walking’ came from a stream of thought that came to Casino after a night of heavy partying.

“I got home and I heard the beat and said this is different,” Casino said. “It’s slow but it hits. And I just started writing lyrics. Usually I don’t write songs but the way I see it, it comes how it comes. Honestly, I just like going in the studio with no plans, nothing ready because that’s when you come up with the most authentic songs. You come up with stuff lime ‘Mm Mm Mm,’ you can’t write shit like that down and deliver it the same way. But I do believe when it comes to creative inspiration, it comes how it comes, it comes and it goes.”

Casino said he’s working on an EP called “Perfect Timing” that will come out in a few weeks.

In the meantime he encourages his fans to check out his catalogue of music and find the singles that touch them.

“I believe with the music that I've already released there’s something for somebody,” Casino said. “You may not like ‘Choker Girls’ but you may like ‘Maria.’ I believe right now there’s so much versatility across the whole catalogue there’s something for everybody. I know people in my personal life that don’t like certain songs but they like other songs. Benji Casino Music, what I'm making is me, it’s the things I go through, things that have happened in my life.

“I want people to know that everything that’s been released on my catalogue I've done myself. Besides the beats, all the production was me. Everything sounds how it’s supposed to sound, I wanted people to hear it how I heard it when it just popped into my head. That’s why everything on my catalogue sounds different.”

Straight from Chicago, the multi-talented duo known as It’s A Cool Day is set to release their latest single, “The Butterfly Effect,” on June 16. The single weaves intricate melodies with relaxing overtones that transport the listener to a musical escape.

It’s A Cool Day is comprised of Craig Lowe, aka The C.o.o.l (Chase Opportunity or Lose), and Derion Scroggins aka Day Underscore, who together can best be described as “a vibe.” The duo was developed by industry veteran Greg “Olskool Ice-Gre” Lewis (Abstract Mindstate), the very first A&R of Good Music and a twenty-three-year creative collaborator to the artist formerly known as Kanye West. He sensed the collaborative potential between C.o.o.l and Day and provided an environment in which they could thrive together.

The magic orchestrated by Honest Music enabled “The Butterfly Effect” to take flight. “Olskool provided the atmosphere for us to just do us and create and have conversations and vibe out,” explains the duo. “We were holding a mic and passing it to each other. That was the cool thing about this project—it was such a unique process.”

Lyrically, “The Butterfly Effect” stems from dealing with love and the butterflies that get in your gut. “It’s about not ruining the moment,” tells the duo. “The narrator’s thinking ‘I hope I’m doing everything correctly—the best for me in this situation. But I’ve also been hurt in relationships.’ It’s about hoping the girl is the person he’s been looking for and what was meant for him and what he needs.”

“We’re not afraid to be vulnerable. If you look at music these days, things are toxic. We have our share of toxic songs but we’re more than that. This is what we’re feeling and want to express that to listeners. It’s not about protecting the ego but being real.”

“We want listeners to know it’s okay to take a chance. It’s the most selfish and selfless thing you can do when it comes to love. Love is tricky and risky, but it’s so necessary to not be closed off and isolated,” adds It’s A Cool Day. “We have the opportunity to be secluded and independent, but you have to get outside.”

The butterfly effect also refers to the real-life phenomenon of the monarch butterfly, a multigenerational species that paves the way for future generations to thrive.

Together, C.o.o.l and Day have created a sound that is a hybrid of the many styles that have influenced them, along with a touch of their own.

“I started in music really young,” shares C.o.o.l of his upbringing. “I sang in choir and was classically trained in opera. Yet growing up in a rough environment, hip hop and rap are a part of me—they’re in my fabric. The combination has created a unique style in me. When I met Day in California, we went on to merge sounds and create an R&B sound with edge.”

Cool comes from the south side of Chicago, while Derion is from the west side. “We grew up at a different pace, but it’s all still Chicago,” adds Day. A second-generation artist, Day also had an early start in music. His father was a musician who would take him to rehearsals and the studio. “I caught the bug very early on,” Day adds. “I was heavily influenced by R&B and pop—from Michael Jackson to Usher. I was a late bloomer to hip hop.”

The creation of “Butterfly” is the result of pure collaboration. Day produced the song from top to bottom, while the lyrics and concept are a result of both working together. “Day came with the beat and I knew it was special as soon as I heard it,” says C.o.o.l. “When it comes to him, there wouldn’t be a record without him. He hears a beat no matter where in the production.”

In the same vein, Day has nothing but good words to say about his musical counterpart. “The cool thing about C.o.o.l is that he has conversations. The way the words come together for him—I’ve never seen anything like it. The lyrics come together and make sense. I’m a writer and will write the lyrics but he doesn’t have to because he’s a superhuman.”

After their single—complete with visuals—drops, It’s A Cool Day is looking forward to releasing their project, You’re Welcome, on June 23. “It’s less of an EP and more of a conversational piece,” teases the duo. “We’re in the middle of making a bridge between traditional and modern. We want to inspire the progression of what may come.”

A vibrant group of powerhouse women have come together to create LA’s newest musical sensation. Whether you are looking for an incredible song, an iconic dance routine or just a new role model, the women of MOXXY are here to provide.

With a sound that blends Pop, R&B, and Rap and an artistic style that is simply electric, MOXXY creates music that stands out from the rest. They meticulously blend spoken word with melodic lines and lighthearted beats to make something beautiful. Their most recent song, a track called  “Extra” does exactly this, and is sure to be your next favorite track.

“Extra” is a song about staying true to yourself when life is barrelling towards you. “The world can come at you and try to drag you down,” explained Lina, the group’s founder. “This song is about how seductive some of the toxic things we encounter can be and how hard it is to stay true to who you are when there is so much forcing its way in.”

Like much of the MOXXY music, “Extra” is all about staying true to who you are and having full respect for yourself. “It can be hard to navigate what is and is not worth it in this world,” CJ, one member of the group said. It is for this reason that the group promotes messages such as compassion and self worth.

“You are enough,” said the members of MOXXY.

MOXXY’s origin story stems from three strong female creatives wanting to form a space where they were able to promote the things that mattered to them most. Their message focuses on being proud of who you are and knowing that your story is yours to create. “Don’t be scared to tell your story,” Bri, another member of MOXXY, said. “We want people to be proud of who they are and where they came from.”

Separating itself from other bands, MOXXY is more than just a platform for recorded music. All three members of the group come from extensive dance backgrounds and love bringing a set to life with movement and expression. The trio takes pride in their onstage performance and puts on a truly incredible show.

Following the release of “Extra”, MOXXY is thrilled to continue growing their community and spreading the message of love and self-acceptance with people all around the world. They are looking forward to a collection of upcoming performances including one at California’s Lightning In A Bottle Music Festival as well as many more.
