In “Keef Yards” Lynez moves into new times with messages delivered in classic hip hop style

“Keef Yards,” says its creator, Lynez, is not a place. It’s a state of mind, “like an answer or retort” to questions understood around and among people about meaning, history and change to the culture.

“You can smell it a mile away,” he said.

“Keef Yards,” the song, is about life, with Lynez delivering a series of messages with the bass rap and beat layered onto a blues background. The span of the lyrics is laid out in the opening lines:

You say life’s precious, cherish every breath

Can’t remember your first, don’t want to see your last

I don’t want to see you hurt, but I don’t want to see you laugh

“It’s a good record,” said Lynez, “very classic, a good perceptive theme. Nothing from the norm. It's a dope record.”

He has, he said, “a lot of space for understanding” about changing times and people and music.

“It's about, like, sensing things sometimes when things get foul on the street, especially when things change and you don't know where to go, when you're trying to move together and work together and appreciate each other for the kind of values of the culture and your beliefs.”

Lynez has been making music since he was 15, but got out of it when, at age 28, his son was born. The son is now 10, and Lynez is getting back into music seriously, looking to create more, get into performing and making his extensive catalog of music available online.

He wants not only to make a living at it, but to honor the traditions and practice of rap. Punchline was about punch lines, comparisons, charisma. Lyrical skill and talent became less valuable when, in the early 2000s, rap became more serious, with more prophecy and politics, he said.

“I didn’t do that. I didn’t have prophecy or philosophy. I just had some dope rhymes. I would just rap round my friends. I’d be out there in the street and talk to the people.”

Which doesn’t mean it was without meaning or was not involved with life and people’s experiences of life.

“But, you know, the essence of hip hop was always about dope rhymes. So, for punchline rappers, that was the state of meaning, understanding that not only you have to have talent, you would automatically include anything serious that might be involved in hip hop or rhyming in MC. It’s a serious thing for everybody.”

So, some 20 years later, “no one really gets into punchline rap.” Rap in general got “back to its essence,” but with more emphasis on lyrical skill.

“Rhymes are more complex, and much more sincere nowadays, and it’s much more appreciated. Punchline rapping will always stay vivid, compared to most, but punchline rap is definitely destined for destruction.”

As rap has grown more serious and meaningful, so has Lynez the father. He is rapping now for his family and for his messages. “I know that there’s a message in a bottle for everyone. That’s one of those sayings that are out there.”

“I’m not just for the entertainment. I have a lot of beliefs, also, so, I’m sharing a lot of views and showing a lot of things for relativity.”

He is rapping his messages of competence in life, understanding, and relevance, especially for youth. He is now working on “Messages to Arkane,” getting the visuals ready to go out.

“It’s a morality thesis about black-on-black crime. This history tends to repeat itself.”

A website is coming soon, but stay connected to Lynez for his music, old and new.

SINGER SONGWRITER 'LIVINTHEMOMNT' STOPS BY THE SHOW AND TALKS ABOUT HER NEW ALBUM "READY TO LIV" AND MORE!

Artist livinthemomnt’s debut project, ready to liv, showcases her vocal virtuosity and creativity

By Kurt Beyers

For her debut as a recording artist, the album ready to liv, livinthemomnt sings, in 10 alt pop tracks, the story of a young woman on the cusp of a new life.

The story is rendered in a voice that, in its lowest register, like on the track “atonement,” plunges down into the listener’s bones and makes them tingle. In the first half of the very next song, “so long,” her high register soars into the upper atmosphere.

Liv says she is still exploring how high she can go.

I’ve learned a lot about my own voice and vocal range through creating this album,” she said, adding, “but this album actually doesn’t even portray my highest range.”

Still, her voice covers a remarkably wide range in singing the stories in individual tracks. They include three short, fun and funny vignettes that punctuate the overall narrative frame.

“The album is about a young woman who is in a relationship and dealing with those ups and downs while also coexisting with the struggles of going to work at a job that she doesn’t necessarily enjoy,” said Liv.

“And,” she concludes, “wanting more, she makes the decision to go and pursue her dreams.”

The musical conclusion comes in the last track, the title song, “ready to liv”:

I’m ready to live with all this shit that I did

I won’t let nothing stop me from where I’m going

I’m never going back this time.

The album is based on her life but, naturally, she takes some artistic license.

“There are some exaggerations. I didn’t kill anyone in a wreck or anything, like in ‘so long.’ You can take the meaning of the songs any way you want when you’re listening, you know? Some people relate differently to them. But overall, it is based on me and my life.”

Olivia Toliver, artist name livinthemomnt, is a singer/songwriter from North Carolina. She has been involved in music since childhood, performing in school talent shows and at local venues. As a teenager, she was also in America’s Got Talent and Miss America Teen pageants.

After performing with the Salisbury Symphony in North Carolina, Liv was given an open invitation to return but decided to launch her own career instead. She worked through the fall on ready to liv and released the project this spring.

The personal part of ready to liv, the part of the story in which the protagonist decides to take the road named “Hopes and Dreams,” is not an exaggeration. That’s what she did.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and I’ve always known that I wanted to do this. The time is now. It just felt right.”

She grew up listening to blues and soul from artists like Etta James, Nina Simone, Sam Cooke, but she loves a wide variety of music.

“I’ve never wanted to be boxed into just one genre, because there’s just so many genres that I love, and I enjoy singing. I want to be able to put aspects of all genres into my music. That’s why I went with alternative, but I ultimately consider my music as alternative soul.”

“The sound that I have created, I feel like, is a unique sound.”

How she feels about her music and career is how she wants her audience and her fans to feel.

“When they hear the album, I want people to feel empowered, and I want them to be able to relate to it and to know that no matter where you’re at in life, it’s okay to start over, live with your mistakes and pursue whatever you want.”

Right now, her focus is ready to liv.

“I want it to reach its full potential. I want it to be successful. This is my first love right here, so I want to cherish this moment and get it to where it should be.” She is working on visuals for the album.

At the same time, she and her producer are working on the next project, which will be what she calls act two of a three-act sequence.

“This,” she said, meaning ready to liv, “is just the first part, and we’re working on the second one. We hope to have that released by the end of this year. This is just the start.”

Rise with her and her music by staying connected to livinthemomnt on all platforms for new music, videos, and social posts.

Lisa Watts—otherwise known as Llace Sarabete—is an American singer, songwriter, and producer from Atlanta, Georgia. Llace is a versatile artist, capable of performing across genres from R&B to pop, jazz, soft rock, and blues. Her latest single, “No Wife,” is an emotional, powerful R&B ballad that many can relate to.

“No Wife” is a song built around a story and a very real one at that. It tells the tale of a woman who dedicates her life to loving a man—a man who decides to marry another woman in the end. The narrator ends up heartbroken yet empowered, much like the song leaves its listeners—full of emotion and understanding.

“It’s based on a true experience—that’s what inspired it,” shares Llace Sarabete. “It’s heartfelt.” Llace’s ability to turn a personal story into a way to relate to listeners demonstrates her artistic power.

From the tender age of seven, Llace Sarabete has been singing and performing. What began as singing for the school choir quickly transformed to leading the band “The Dance Machine” to performing at Atlanta’s top venues like the Atlanta Civic Center. A lifetime of experience combined with the ability to connect with listeners is what makes Llace Sarabete an artist to pay attention to for years to come.

When she sits down to write music, Llace Sarabete tends to approach new songs with a reliable method. “I’ll start with the concept first—I’ll write the lyrics and melody first, then work with a producer to add music to it. ’No Wife’ we actually wrote and recorded months ago but didn’t share it again for a long time.”

Llace has been pleasantly surprised by the early and positive feedback for her single, which resonates with listeners from all over. “I’m already touring and doing interviews for the single,” exclaims Llace. “I didn’t expect it to catch on so quickly!”

“I really want people to give it a listen and to enjoy the song for whatever their reason,” adds Llace. “I appreciate everyone who does take a listen to it. The single is so important to me.”

Up next for the artist is a full album. “I’m excited about the songs on my upcoming album,” shares Llace. “It features different types of genres.” While we patiently await more music, we’ll be listening to “No Wife” on repeat.

TRAP R&B RECORDING ARTIST "KEYVOUS" STOPS BY AND TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW SINGLE 'CATCH A WAVE' AND MORE!

Catch a trap/R&B wave with Keyvous as he and his music evolve and grow

KEYVOUS - CATCH A WAVE (28:34)

By Kurt Beyers

“Catch A Wave” is a dance track, the latest single from Keyvous, and it is also the next step in his evolution as a singer and songwriter.

“It’s a fun song,” he said. “I want people to have fun listening to it, I want people to dance to it, and I want them to get a good feeling from it.”

The song is boy-chasing-girl, R&B vocals set to a trap beat. It starts off instrumental, as if they’re sizing each other up, then the vocals as the man makes his pitch.

There’s no other place

That I’d rather be

Just us all alone

Keeping company

The hook and the beat kick in, and they’re off to the dance:

Come catch a wave

And we gone

Are you on

What I’m on

Do you want

What I want

Whether it’s a hookup for the night or the start of a relationship, that’s up to the listener.

“I try to leave things open,” said Keyvous. “As the listener, it really depends on the type of person you are. Some people want one-night stands, and some people want to do something more with it. I want it to be romantic, but it has, you know, undertones.”

“Evolution” means more than one thing to Keyvous. He has been in the music business for years. His first group, Think Twice, was at age 11 with friends Robin Thicke, Brian Austin Green and Adam Swartz. Keyvous wrote, sang, rapped and danced at celebrity parties in Southern California.

He has toured internationally with The League (Mike Kasem and the late Sam Sarpong) then with the group Leon Rockmore.

“I try not to box in my music because, as an artist, I love music. Period. I don’t love just one form of music. ‘Catch A Wave,’ because I’ve been in groups in the past, is an evolution of what’s going on with music at this time, with this generation, for this moment.”

He says singers are often asked questions such as: Are you pop? Are you hip hop? Rap? R&B? What genre are you in? But he is a songwriter first, he says, and a singer, though he can rap, too, and “singing has changed so much throughout the years.”

“If you look at the charts from the ’90s, or the ’80s, every genre of music basically was on that chart. Right now, it’s more hip hop/R&B that’s controlling the charts.”

Because he loves music of all kinds and doesn’t restrict his listening to one genre, and “knowing what I could do and knowing where I could fit in as an artist, that’s my evolution.”

The evolution is personal, too. As he says in his official bio, he is “committed to mastering his craft, evolving his music.” He has released a body of work as an independent recording artist, both solo and in collaboration — music that is on radio and television, in advertising and movies.

“I can go a lot of different directions. I can go EDM, I can go reggaeton — I actually have some stuff that’s like new funk.”

He chose to release “Catch A Wave” now — itself a departure from his previous music — because of the feeling he has for it, and the timing.

“My previous music all has its lane, and it’s all different. I chose ‘Catch A Wave’ because of the type of beat it has, the trap beat, which is relevant to what’s going on right now, but I wanted to put R&B vocals over the top. I felt that was what I needed.”

Next might be another single or an album.

“We’ll see where ‘Catch A Wave’ lands me. It’s a building point.”

MJ38 is an up and coming Hip Hop duo that is filled to the brim with innovation. Beginning as freestyle rappers in highschool, Matthew and Justin have been honing their skills for the last few years and are now sharing high quality tracks that have a little something for everyone. Their most recent project is a three song EP titled Death To Self.

Death To Self features three distinct tracks. “The first is a kind of hit the gym, high energy song, the second is more of a party song, and the third is a really chill introspective song,” the boys explained.

The first song, “Mr. Jefferson” is a high intensity piece that focuses on how actions speak louder than words. “Talk is just talk,” MJ38 said. “You have to put the work in to see growth.” The duo explained their vision for the song, with emphasis on the dissonance that comes from following through on your word while the people around you are all talk. The song has a strong message and for those who choose to follow through, it can be incredibly relatable.

The second track on the EP is “Room”, an exciting song that is perfect for your next party. “‘Room’ is about a girl that blows you away,” they explained.  “We wanted to make something that the women in our friend group can really enjoy.” Not only is the song fun and exciting, it is also empowering to the women who listen to MJ38.

The third and final song on Death To Self is “God’s Favorite”, a song that blends two important factors, the things that drive us and the impact our faith can have. “Everyone always seemed to think I had it all together, but I didn’t,” half of the duo explained. This song was a representation of that and the impact it had on what pushed MJ38 to be the best that they could.

As a whole, Death To Self is a story, with each track building on the next. “You can listen to just one of the songs,” they said. “But I think they’re easier to understand and connect with when you experience the EP as a whole.” The project is not only a cohesive thought, but also a showcase of what MJ38 is truly capable of.

Connecting with these incredible tracks, Matthew and Justin are excited to release a few pieces of visual media to go alongside the Death To Self tracks. They are sure to add an element of depth to an already impressive collection.

Following the release of Death To Self, Matthew and Justin are looking forward to continuing to release music together and pursue their joint podcast, The MJ38 Show, which can be found wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts. They have big goals for their future projects and hope to continue to grow their fanbase as they work towards their futures. Be sure to keep an eye out for MJ38 this summer as they gear up towards live performances and festival appearances. There is much to come from this duo and you will not want to miss out on it.

MUSICIAN SONGWRITER 'TOM DEEZAN' STOPS BY AND TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW SINGLE "WATERFLOW" AND MUCH MORE!

Tom Deezan Reflects on Growth and a Nomadic Life in Latest Pop Single “Waterflow”

By: Nadia Sobehart

TOM DEEZAN - WATERFLOW (18:00)

Musician and songwriter, Tom Deezan, welcomes listeners on a journey of personal growth through his latest single, “Waterflow,” the second single to “The Nomad’s Duology” project. Currently based in Los Angeles, the 22-year-old musician hails from Cordoba, Argentina, where he was raised, and spent half of the past year living in Mexico in pursuit of personal growth. His journey has led us to “Waterflow,” complete with life lessons he is eager to share with listeners.

“Waterflow” is a powerful song about abundance, growth, and rebirth. “It’s about the deidealization of love—the truth of post-relationship pain and growing from pain as well,” tells Deezan. “The main concept of this song is an awakening process in which I finally discover my power after diminishing myself. It’s also about connecting with the abundance that surrounds us.”

Using key references, like the Ace of Swords, Tom Deezan brings deeper meaning to his single. “The Ace of Swords is a tarot card with an important meaning,” he explains. “It describes a moment of breakthrough in life and seeing things from a new point of view. It allows us to get rid of deception and bad feelings in exchange for new beginnings. And that’s what this single is about—growing from pain into new beginnings.”

Music has been a part of Tom Deezan’s life for as long as he can remember. “I’ve been singing since I was a little kid and was always passionate about writing songs as well. I wrote songs, poems, and stories,” shares the musician.

Four years ago, Deezan journeyed down the path of production, developing his skills as time went on. In 2021, he created his first single alone in his bedroom and an entire music video with his friend.  In 2022, Deezan recorded “Waterflow,” his second single, with vibrant visuals to match.

“It’s the second part of what I call ‘The Nomad’s Duology,’” shares Deezan. “The first part was ‘Love Me In Chains,’ my first single. Both projects tell the story of this character in different physical plains and perspectives. I chose the word ‘nomad’ because it matches my character and phase in life. A nomad is a person who doesn’t stay long in a physical plain. I’ve felt this way the past three years of my writing—a constant search for change in every aspect of my life.”

To create “Waterflow,” Tom Deezan traveled to Mexico, where he lived for six months. “After my first single, I traveled while I was going through personal things and feelings. I decided to move to a different country alone and started writing alone. It was then I traveled to Mexico City to work with a producer. We built the beat first and then I freestyle on top of it with the story I wanted to tell,” tells Deezan. “We focused on a solid pop core and added bits of 80s sound and futuristic synths to create the sound we wanted.”

The concept of a nomadic life heavily influenced not only Deezan’s two singles but also his way of life. “I have a kind of weird but constant ambition for new feelings and experiences,” shares the artist. “My only purpose now is to grow and get to know what life is like. I’m a Sagittarius—I’m always looking for change and new experiences and feelings.”

While he’s focused on growing as a person and artist, Tom Deezan is also keen on sharing his experiences through song. “I’m definitely trying to make listeners aware of the power we have as humans and the power of the universe itself being around us. I want to raise awareness of the abundance that surrounds us,” adds Deezan.

SINGER SONGWRITER TAMAS BULLA STOPS BY AND TALKS ABOUT HIS LATEST SONG "TIK TOK" AND MORE!

Teen singer/songwriter with boatload of talent looking to ride his flow into a career

By Kurt Beyers

TAMAS BULLA - TIK TOK (15:31)

Download the MP3

“TikTok” is the latest shot in the campaign of Tamas Bulla, 15-year-old singer/songwriter, to make a career in music.

The rap beat is where his “flow” is now, and he hopes the stream will take him from New Jersey to California. And he is having some fun with it.

“TikTok,” for instance. It has a thumping trap beat and lyrics that are, essentially, a complaint to his manager that he has been working too hard. A fun kind of beach video goes with it.

“My manager was telling me like how I need to post TikTok videos,” he said. “I wasn’t really posting that much because I was, like, over it. I was in the shower after getting out of the jacuzzi, and I started singing,‘I just needed a break from the TikTok,’ and then I just went off of there.”

Yeah I been I been I been gone

Walking through these streets with my shades on

I just needed a break

From the TikTok

With that beginning, the track turns into a story about a day with his girlfriend. He likes to tell stories in his tracks.

“I find the beat I like, and then I just say stuff or play the beat on loop until I find something to say, and I try to make it about my life or something that people can relate to.”

His turn to rap is recent. He has released seven songs since late last year, starting in the pop lane with the first three songs. The first two, “Out of Time” and “Shower Thoughts,” are original. The third, “Love Again,” was a cover of a Kid LaRoi song.

“I just recorded it for practice, but then my manager liked it, and he wanted me to put it out.”

All three are different examples of pop. His experiments with rap began with the fourth song, “Roll With Me,” a rap ballad. Next came “With You,” a bitter-sweet pop love song with a definite rap drumbeat.

“I was still trying to stay with that kind of poppy singing vibe, but I was trying to transition into this hip hop/rap kind of stuff.”

Then came “Spain,” rap with Mediterranean strings in the melody over the rap drums, and now “TikTok.”

“I’m trying to discover what’s best for me, and what people like the most,” he said. “I don’t go into the studio and have multiple writers working. At most, like ‘With You’ and ‘TikTok,’ I had my manager on a FaceTime call writing the song with me. I write all my songs, and I record everything by myself.”

He usually works on five songs at a time. Blocked on one, he starts another or switches back and forth. “It depends on how I feel about the song.”

The stories do not emerge from the beats.

“I just look for that flow that I have,” he said. “If a beat has my type of flow that I can write good lyrics on, then that’s most likely the beat that I would choose.”

He wants to make a career out of music and has since his parents gave him a guitar at age 5. He learned how to play it, the piano and drums.

Tamas is a part of a large Hungarian community in the region around his hometown in New Jersey, and he has sung at annual Hungarian festivals and at other ceremonies and celebrations.

“I know that I want to make a career out of music. I used to street perform, and I’ve played in bars, but, obviously, I want something way bigger than that. I just don’t know what type of career.”

He doesn’t have a specific goal right now. “I’m just trying to get it out there, trying to see what type of people or what type of music people want to listen to from me. And I’m still trying to figure out which type of music fits me as a person.”

From a purely listening standpoint, he has handled extremely well the different things he has tried so far.

More music is coming, and an exodus to California is a possibility, which would include leaving school to study for a GED.

“I can’t imagine myself sitting in school for another three years of my life, knowing that I can be outside having fun making music.”

“TikTok” is a step in that direction. If he builds enough of an audience, he said, “My parents would consider it.”

His music has the power to draw a following. Connect with Tamas Bulla on all platforms for new music, videos, and social posts.

VOODOO SOUL STOPS BY AND TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW SINGLE "BREAKTHROUGH" AND MUCH, MUCH, MORE!

'THE VOODOO SOUL' WEAVES HOPE INTO MULTI - GENRE SINGLE, "BREAKTHROUGH'

Based in the Pacific Northwest, The Voodoo Soul—otherwise known as Adam Watson—is a musician and artist set on inspiring listeners through song. His latest single, “Breakthrough,” explores the themes of hope, friendship, and self-belief through a unique blend of trap, hip hop, and R&B—all laced together with a strong electric guitar.

“My style of creating music is stream-of-conscious style writing. I first get the music portion produced and then freestyle and flow over the song, some 3-4 times. Then I’ll go back and listen to it. It’s different than sitting down from the beginning to write about a topic. The song dictates and writes itself,” shares The Voodoo Soul.

“While I was writing the single, I had the overwhelming feeling of remembering people that helped me get somewhere,” he adds. “This single is about honoring that and bringing hope to listeners.”

With influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Jay Z, it comes as no surprise that The Voodoo Soul has a style of his own. Traditionally, the musician focused on guitar and songwriting. He began playing guitar at age 12 on a fishing boat with a friend. It wasn’t until the pandemic hit that he began exploring production, music theory, recording, and adding a fuller range of instruments to his sound.

The Voodoo Soul specializes in storytelling, from the little moments in life (like getting stuck at a Greyhound station) to introspective thoughts. He is driven by helping others achieve their goals and seeks to bring hope through his music. “I think I always want people to gain mindfulness in anything I write or tell a story about. Introspection and hope, whatever propels us forward. Those are the elements I want to incorporate in my music,” tells The Voodoo Soul.

“For a while, I was producing all the parts of my songs—the beat, drums, bass. It’s only recently that I started to reach out for beats and collaborate with other producers and artists. I was all on my own for a while, but it’s fun to share that energy with other artists,” tells The Voodoo Soul of his writing process. “I focus a lot on the writing. Sometimes I write five, six, ten songs a day—whole flows to beats. Other times I’ll find things I like here and there and resample or rerecord them (after getting the rights).”

Up next, The Voodoo Soul will be releasing a hip-hop, trap-style single featuring the acoustic guitar. For now, he is focused on “Breakthrough,” and sharing his unique musical style with listeners all over the world.

“I’m a real believer in following your heart and working as hard as you can,” shares the artist. “You don’t have to be the most talented person in the room, but you can be the hardest working one. Don’t give up—always persevere. And to my musician friends—get your bad songs out of the way at the beginning,” he adds. “What I put into music is more than chasing the end—it’s about the in-between and enjoying the journey.”
