Up-and-coming musician, B. Alvee, delivers a radio-ready hit with his latest single, “Real Money.” With smooth vocals and ear-catching melodies, it’s hard to believe that B. Alvee is only getting started.

“Real Money” is based on real life experiences influenced by money. “This song is about loyalty, experience, and inspiration,” explains B. Alvee. “I want listeners to know that money isn’t always that. Sometimes it turns people.”

“I wrote it at a time I was going out places and observing people. Some people only chase money or want to be around it. It’s hard to know what’s real or what’s fake money. Some people show off like they have it but don’t. I also talk about people showing their true colors when they see you doing good.”

As for his writing process, B. Alvee tends to lay down the harmonies and melody from a starting beat. “Sometimes I’ll lay the harmonies down, close out a session, move on with my day, and then come back to it. For this single, I came back to it, challenged myself to go out and be observant, then came back and wrote to it.”

A first generation American born to a Mexican mother, the young B. Alvee grew up in a single parent household, in Section 8 housing of Kansas City, Missouri. It wasn’t until the fourth grade that his family moved to middle-class suburbs. Throughout his youth, B. Alvee felt like a fish out of water, yet managed to make lifelong friends and play on winning sports teams. Following high school, he joined the Army National Guard as a paralegal specialist. He also attended Missouri State University, graduating in three years with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a minor in Finance. B. Alvee then spent the next several years pursuing a career in military and law.

It wasn’t until the pandemic hit that he found himself at a crossroads. “Since everything was shut down and schools were online, I chose to write my first song and tried recording. This is where I discovered my love for creating music,” shares B. Alvee. In November of 2021, B. Alvee met his audio engineer, Steve, and began recording. “I knew at that point it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.”

Tragedy has played a large part in B. Alvee's life. He lost a younger cousin in 2015 to murder. In 2018, he lost another cousin, the sister of his previously deceased cousin, to depression and suicide. Many of the difficult moments in B. Alvee's life helped shape who he is today—both as an artist and person. His first single, released in June 2022, was dedicated to his late best friend, Collin Good, who died from an overdose.

At the end of the day, B. Alvee wants his listeners to be able to enjoy themselves and find support in the trials of everyday life. “There doesn’t always have to be a message,” says B. Alvee of creating music. “Sometimes it was fun, so we made the song. As long as my listeners are having a good time, that’s what matters.”

This year, B. Alvee is excited to share more singles and music videos. After an entire year of building on his sound, he’s finally in the position to share what he’s been working on. “The visuals are great, too,” adds B. Alvee.

Sisaundra Lewis is a singer/songwriter and producer who grew up singing in church choirs and developing her skills through that natural progression. It was through this collection of experiences that she was able to become a finalist on NBCs The Voice, and grow through that and into the current phase of her career. With a gorgeously developed sound, she has been able to captivate audiences and empower others to feel emotions such as hope and wonder.

Most recently, Lewis has been focusing her energy on her latest single Yes (Youd Hear My Mom Say), a project that pulls a modern Gospel sound together with the nostalgia of an old hymn. Yes (Youd Hear My Mom Say) draws inspiration from a hymn Lewis remembered through her mother. Taking pieces of the older song and building them out to connect to a more contemporary style, she has designed something rare and beautiful.

We were able to take this song to the next level, she explained, discussing the tracks origin. When people listen to this song, I want them to be reminded of the power of using the word yes. The song is designed to implore people towards the power that comes from taking a leap of faith and accepting good things when they come into your life.

“‘Yes (Youd Hear My Mom Say) has already empowered and provided hope to so many, she said. It has been so powerful to see how it has been able to do that for the people listening to my music.

Lewis debuted the song on her nationwide cable television show, The Sisaundra Show, where it proceeded to go viral, raking in over 600,000 views on Tik Tok and Instagram. From there, she was able to fully debut Yes (Youd Hear My Mom Say) and share the whole song  with her attentive audience.

Keep an eye out for Sisaundra and her band, For The Culture, on The Sisaundra Show which airs every Monday to Friday at 7PM Nationwide on AFRO TV, Comcast Xfinity channel 1623 and Roku.  The Nielsen rated show features performances by Lewis and her live band, thoughtful discussions.

Alongside their regular show, Lewis and her band are looking forward to the launch of their residency show, Gospel Black, a project that describes the evolution of Black Gospel through a collection of hopeful music. This broadway type show as well as the bands upcoming singles are sure to be incredible additions to her career. You certainly will not want to miss out on them.

R&B SINGER SONGWRITER 'SMAILO ONE' TALKS NEW SINGLE "DANCE WITH ME" AND MORE!

Smailo one comes to America with a dream and a plan, and they begin in “Dance With Me”

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST BELOW!

SMAILO - ONE (19:48)

Download the MP3

By Kurt Beyers

Around ten months ago, the artist known as Smailo one left his native Morocco and moved to the United States to find musical stardom.

He has a plan, and the first step in that plan is “Dance With Me,” releasing officially on April 11.

I’m starting now with ‘Dance With Me,’ and then every month, approximately, a new song will be released.” In about a year, he will have released the 12 tracks that will be his first album, My Universe.

Dance With Me” is a pop/R&B song. Smailo’s (pronounced like “smile” with an “oh” on the end) voice is soulful and expressive on this dreamy, slow-dance number.

He created it from samples of “Careless Whisper,” an ’80s George Michael tune. He reworked the chords, added guitars and bass and made his own melodies and lyrics.

“‘Dance With Me’ gives me many feelings and sensations of love, in various places,” he said, “on the beach, in the pool, an apartment.”

It was just about four years ago that he decided to make a career out of music. Until his move to the United States last year, he devoted himself to learning.

I was just working by myself at home, in how to sing, how to learn English, how to write and everything.”

Then,” said the 21-year-old immigrant, “I took the plane here to America, this without nobody. I just took the plane, and I started to work and make music in America and try to find how to promote it.”

In conversation, he still has a noticeable accent, but there is hardly any trace of it in his singing.

He says his plan has overall goals and themes, like My Universe, next year’s album, but each song is different.

I have many topics,” he said. “Every song has it’s own meaning.”

He is also not limited to R&B.

Yes, I’m an R&B artist, but I can do any style.” I don’t have any problem with that,” he said. “I can do any style, because when I feel a song, and I like another song, I can sample it and do my version of it.”

His creation process is to set himself up with a sample, which he describes as more like an idea based on the sample’s chords. The music that comes to him then gives him the ideas for the lyrics.

So, how I make my songs. I take any song I like and I — with my guitar — I take the chords and start to create a melody first of all. When I have the melody, I put lyrics on it, and then I think about the instrumentals. For example, a song like Michael Jackson and ‘Beat It,’ I'm gonna take the various instrumentals and sample that and add many steps on it. The most important thing is the personality — who I am in the song.”

He doesn’t divulge many details about the coming releases. That is part of his plan, too. In order to build suspense, he will reveal details slowly, with and through his music.

He has his day job here while he works his plan to achieve his dream of music. The plan, his talent, creativity and dedication are most of what he brought with him from Morocco. They illustrate one of the things he cited as making him stand out from other artists.

I don’t give up,” he said. “Stay until you make it, you know, like, motivation. Don’t be a loser. But I explain that more in my music.”

PUNK RAPPER RECORDING ARTIST "DEAD HENDRIX" RETURNS TO TALK ABOUT HIS NEW PROJECT 'MUSTANG' AND MUCH MORE!

Dead Hendrix packs punk and rap, vibe and attitude into breakout single “Mustang”

DEAD HENDRIX "MUSTANG" RELEASE (18:05)

Download the MP3

By Kurt Beyers

At the intersection of punk rock and rap, Canadian Dead Hendrix, driving “Mustang,” is banging into the mainstream of North American music.

The single will be released on March 31.

“For me, ‘Mustang’ is my come-out song,” said Hendi. “I’ve been grinding, trying to raise my success level through different songs and collaborations, and ‘Mustang’ is the song where I go out there and say, ‘I'm here.’ It’s aggressive, it's a vibe, and it’s something that says ‘Dead Hendrix.’”

In his fusion of punk and rap, he said, he aims to “make that perfect blend of styles,” and his music is always going to cross boundaries and have an attitude.

“My music’s always going to be different, and I’m always going to talk about real things, real problems in my life, whether it’s loss of friends, drug abuse, trauma, all those bad thoughts. But I’m also going to be making music that people can bump their heads to.”

His own favorite lines from “Mustang” reflect this:

Came a long way from welfare and shelters

Ay, I learned how to deal with depression

When I leave, leave a lasting impression

His featured artist on “Mustang,” Yungcudii, is, like Hendi, from Ottawa, Canada. He has the middle part of the song, and in the Dead Hendrix blend of styles, “Yungcudii’s part perfectly adds to that.”

He enthuses over his favorite lines from Yungcudii’s verse, from the middle of his verse:

Mustang I’m rolling

I told Hendrix we living lavish like we rockstars

Bust down my Rollie

Me and bro we be twin like we Zack and Cody

Born for this glory

“And it’s got this really cool switch in the flow, and it just sounds really sick,” said Hendi.

Yungcudii has found a lot of success in street rap and R&B. Hendi said he has loved Yungcudii’s music for a long time. They knew each other in high school, recorded in the same studio.

“We weren’t very close or anything, but we were around each other. He exploded into success very quickly, and I really like how we were around each other making music in the high school days, and now that I’ve started creating a name for myself, it’s come full circle to us working together on this song.”

Dead Hendrix has been very active in addition to creating music. He and Levi Zadoff, with whom he released an album last year, Dead Summer, are in the middle of a slow-motion tour of the United States, one a month or so, “however long it takes to create a good show and promote it well.”

So far, they have done Los Angeles and San Francisco, and plans are for a couple of shows in Arizona.

“Dead Summer is a great project,” he said. “I love it, but it swung a little more to the side of alt rock or pop punk. Now I’m trying to get back to my roots of what I’m trying to do with punk and rap. I don’t know anyone else from my city who tries to bring that punk aspect into the rap.”

In June, he will be on another album called OttawaXToronto, like in math, Ottawa times Toronto. It will be a collaboration of upcoming artists from those two cities. Hendi will be in a song with Toronto rap artist 3MFrench.

“That’s a really big thing for people who know about Toronto music. People such as Casper TNG, Lil Berete, Duvy, they’re all going to be on the project.”

He has a lot of music coming out in the next months, including his first solo album. It is yet untitled, but “Mustang” will be the lead single on it. He expects to finish the album and release it by the end of the year.

“It’s going to be that piece of work that shows who Dead Hendrix is, like an introduction to everybody who hasn’t seen me before. I’m going from my core fan base, who I love so much, and coming out onto a bigger stage saying, ‘This is Dead Hendrix.’”

Drew The Dream began to explore the world of music when he was only in high school. Influenced by some of his favorite rappers and friends who were also pursuing music, he quickly fell in love with it. From there he began recording music on his own. Now he is excited to release his latest single, a project titled “Laid Back”.

“Laid Back” is a project that truly describes the attitude Drew The Dream takes when it comes to life. “I am a really laid back person,” he explained. “This song is to show people that part of me.” The song, true to its name, has a fun casual vibe to it, making you feel as if you are just as happy to be hanging out as he is.

Something that truly makes Drew The Dream a unique musician is the way he records his music. “All of the music I make comes from my phone,” he explained. “It doesn’t come from a studio, but it is the same quality as studio recorded music.” The way in which he records his music is one of many ways he pursues music as an independent artist on a budget.

Following the release of “Laid Back”, Drew The Dream is also looking forward to the release of his next single, “You and I” which is set to release at the end of the month. “I am really speaking to the audience in this track,” Drew explained. “It’s a way of connecting with them.”

Afro-fusion singer-songwriter B-Tone bares all in debut EP

By John Hacker

LAGOS, Nigeria — Some people hear B-Tone’s music and they hear gospel; others think it is R&B, still others hear reggae.

When you ask the new Nigerian Afropop singer-songwriter to define his sound, he hears all of those and more and he displays most of his extensive repertoire in his debut EP called “Nudes.”

‘Thank God’ is a song I dropped years ago,” B-Tone said. “I dropped it in 2019 and it went viral in this part of the world, it went very, very viral and it’s part of the reason I named the project ‘Nudes.’ There were many people who started thinking that I was a gospel artist and that kind of restricted my sound. So I didn’t want to be boxed or caged in anymore so I had to express myself and say this is the nude me, this is me.”

The EP, which was released on streaming platforms last year, features seven singles which come from show B-Tone’s heart and bears it for all to see — hence the name “Nudes.”

“I was basically inspired by the state of mind I was in at that particular time. I was going through a phase in my life, I was discovering myself and different parts of my sound,” B-Tone said. “That was why I called it ‘Nudes’ because I wanted it to be a reflection of how I was feeling at that particular time. I wanted the sound and lyrics and everything to be true and for it to be enjoyable to the listeners. Basically it was just me expressing myself the best way I knew how to.

“The EP has seven songs and they all have different messages. The first song, ‘Holy Water,’ is a love song talking about my insecurities and my relationship and stuff. ‘Tension,’ I don’t want tension, it’s literally talking about what it says. It’s very plain. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, of good vibes, love, good energy. I just compiled the whole project that way.”

B-Tone was born and grew up in the Kogi State of north-central Nigeria, a rural area far from the opportunities provided in the large cities.

He said he started his music at a very early age, with great influence from friends and his surrounding.

“It’s very, very difficult place to grow up, nobody is going to rescue you, no body is going to help you,” B-Tone said. “Basically you have to do everything yourself. I felt like I needed to say something but I couldn't say it and I needed to find a way to talk or get ahead. So I started making music, and growing up where I came from, it’s very very difficult because not so many people make it out of that place. We don’t have many, I can count on one hand how many superstars we have from there.”

B-Tone said he wrote poems for girls just for fun, then in 2012 he started taking his music seriously.

“In 2014 I recorded my first song ever,” he said. “Since then the response from it was mind-blowing. Since then I got good feedback and I thought maybe I should do this for real. I started posting freestyles in Instagram and that’s how I met my now recording label and boss, Royalty Records. They saw my freestyles on Instagram and they reached out to me and I was still in school. They reached out and said, hey, come to Lagos.”

B-Tone said he wants to make a deeper connection with his listeners and fans with his music.

“I really want the listener to not just listen and nod their heads,” he said. “I want them to connect to the words and try to feel what I'm saying, try to connect with the words and feel me and try to connect to me, the artist and the state of mind I was in when I was creating the whole project.

“I just want you to know that, ok, this is where I'm at and I'm using this to tell you my story and I want you to feel it too and feel connected too. It’s just me using it to get closer to my fans and people who love my music.”

THE CREATOR OF THE A.D.A.M. MUSIC PROJECT ADAM DEGRAIDE STOPS BY AND TALKS ABOUT 'A.D.A.M' AND THE NEW ALBUM "APEX RISING PT2" AND MUCH MORE!

A.D.A.M. brings gaming warriors to glorious, rocked-out life in Apex Rising Pt2

THE A.D.A.M. MUSIC PROJECT (30:01)

Adam DeGraide, creator, instigator, coordinator of the project that produced the album Apex Rising Pt2, wants people to know three things about the album, which is seven tracks of rock. Hard rock.

One, it is rock as good and as hard as any rock, anywhere, performed, two, by an army of highly talented singers and musicians, and each song is, three, about a character from the video game Apex Legends.

First and foremost, the music has to stand on its own. The music has to be good,” said Adam, which brings us to the name of the project that encompasses the music, musicians and lyrics. It is the A.D.A.M. Music Project — A.D.A.M. for Artists Developing Astonishing Music.

The project is Adam’s brainchild, and Apex Rising Pt2 is A.D.A.M.’s latest offering to the gods of rock and gaming.

I wanted to bring in the people that I love and that I consider dear in my life, which are independent artists, and we’re going to get together, and we’re going to co-write the songs, but it’s not going to be about us. The music’s not going to be about our own personal angst or our own vision for the world. Each and every song is going to be about a character from the games we love.”

And for the first release in the planned series of releases, the characters come from the war game Apex Legends.

But he reiterates, again and again, that the No. 1 priority is to produce “astonishing” music.

In other words,” he said, “kickass guitar solos; kick ass vocal performances; great melodies; high-end, top-tier production.”

Every single track on the album and in the videos makes good on those promises. You don’t have to be a rock nerd or a hard-core gamer to get off.

You don’t need to know, for instance, that “I Bring Death” is the point of view of a character named Revenant, who, said Adam, is “very much like the devil.”

Really, man, when you listen to that song, I wanted it to feel like there were demons on your shoulder speaking into your ears.”

Mission accomplished. Beyond an organ intro, as from a vintage Vincent Price flick, pounding drums and screaming guitar drop straight into war:

I am the nightmare, I'll take your last breath

            I'll take your last breath

I am the nightmare and I bring death

            I bring death

Track 2, “Wrecking Ball,” is Maggie (sung by Hartleigh Buwick, an actress from “Tulsa King”) and her weapon of choice:

Wrecking ball is coming right at you

My wrecking ball is gonna bring you down.

Motherlode,” track 3 (“Motherlode’s the balls!” says Adam), whose character, Fuse, “is all about gasoline, blowing things up”:

I think it's time to drop the mother load

            Napalm with a warm glow

And so on down the line, Seer (“Beautiful”), very emotional, can see where his enemies are, and “is all about art: you’re gonna die, but Seer will make it beautiful”; Wattson (“News to You”), with the power of electricity; Horizon (“Me and N.E.W.T.”), the power of a mini black hole; and Crypto (“Electric Eye”), “he can EMP you.”

All the characters are sung by artists chosen for talent and the ability to inhabit the character. Most of them are also gamers, he said. Some, not all.

But they should be.”

For Adam, this is a labor of love and a coming out. He has been an artist all his life, but he has worked mainly behind the scenes producing, signing independent artists like the Aranda brothers, one of whom, Dameon, is his co-producer. Adam has owned an independent label, published music as a hobby, been CEO of various software companies, “but I never did anything for myself.”

The idea that became the A.D.A.M. Music Project germinated about two years ago, when his wife pointed out to him that he loved music and loved gaming, with the clear implication that he should do something about it.

And I said, ‘You know what? I want to do an album. I want to start making hard rock music because it’s what I love. And I’m going to do it about something else that I love to do, which is video games.’”

The project has released 14 songs, with about 25 musicians and vocalists involved so far. Before he’s done with Apex Legends, there will be a total of 20 songs.

After that will be more games, more music, all based on the same principles of hard driving, high quality music; a variety of top-notch artists; and lyrics from the point of view of game characters.

And it's cool because it features many different types of individuals — all from different cultures and musical styles” he said. “The project was chosen because it's a melting pot, and it gave me the ability to feature as many voices and musicians as possible.”

SINGER / SONGWRITER "THeMahfuzR" STOPS BY AND TALKS UP HIS NEW SINGLE 'PHOTOGRAPH BOOK' AND MUCH MORE!

LA artist “TheMahfuzR” reaches into past for current single

YORBA LINDA, Calif. — New LA artist and songwriter TheMahfuzR reached deep into his past for his debut single in the U.S. called “Photograph Book.”

TheMahfuzR, an engineer in the automotive industry for years, has always had a love for music and now he has more time to invest in something that has been a passion until now.

I love the arts, I love music, I love to help people,” TheMahfuzR said. “That's a huge part of my life. Obviously, life happened, I had to work and put food on the table, so I couldn't dedicate as much time to the arts as I wanted to in my earlier life, but now I'm like, you know what? I’m going to do this, I have to do this. So when the kids grew up a little, I had a little more time and then I dove into it, and I’m going to keep on going as I can.”

TheMahfuzR was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1965 to an engineer father and mother who was a professor. He completed his Master’s degrees in Physics, Computer Engineering and Business Administration and worked as an automotive engineer for many years.

He hails from a family of artists. “My grandmother was a violinist; mother was a violinist, keyboardist, a vocalist and classical (Indian) dancer; my uncles were keyboardists, painters, etc.,” TheMahfuzR said. “My parents were also award winning ballroom dancers.  I was voice trained in Bengali classical music during grade school years and I taught myself how to play the guitar, keyboards and the tabla. I grew up listening to music icons such as Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Al Stewart, Dire Straits, etc., and developed my love for English music as well.”

He moved to the US in 1992 and even as he worked as an engineer, he continued singing Bengali pop, English soft rock, pop and other kinds of music in venues across the country both in bands and solo.

TheMahfuzR said “Photograph Book” began life as a song written by a friend about 35 years ago that he couldn’t get out of his head.

I love this song and I’ve been told I do it well. So I thought, you know what, I’m going to sing this song, record it, publish it and see if people like it” he said. He contacted his friend who owned the rights and got his permission to re-write/edit and release the song.

I made some changes to the lyrics to cater to my liking, changed the bridge completely and used different instruments than originally used to record it in a recording studio not too far from home.”

TheMahfuzR said he’s put amateur recordings of another song he’s played on YouTube but this is the first song he’s released after going through the studio process and working to promote it.

He said the message of loss and regret are very clear and the song seems to be a sad song, but he hopes it has a positive impact on people.

This is definitely not a happy song, it’s more about someone reminiscing and it’s very sad,” TheMahfuzR said. “They’re dealing with their loss, they’re sitting there and saying I wish I could have kept you, what could I have done? As humans we are always thinking stuff what was I thinking, what could I have done differently. The more you think, the more sad you feel. But it’s always nice when you’re going through a bad situation to have someone understand and relate a story which is similar, then you can share your feelings. Maybe this song can help someone, if someone is going through a hard time, a loss of someone, even the loss of a pet.”
