ALTERNATIVE ROCK ARTIST "TERATON" TALKS NEW SINGLE "HULLABALLOO" PLUS MUCH MORE!
Alternative
Rock Artist Teraton Immerses Listeners in a Sonic Experience with New Single,
‘Hullaballoo’
By: Nadia Sobehart
PHILLIP BROOKS - TERATON (26:45)
Defying genres and structures,
the artist strives to create music that resonates with discerning listeners.
“It’s always difficult and stressful releasing your first single,” shares the
artist of this track. “It was also very exciting hearing all of the positive
feedback.” Mostly, Teraton wants listeners to find belonging in his music—no
matter what the genre.
At the beginning, Teraton began
writing as a method for expressing both personal and social ideas, reflected in
both the lyrics and the music. Now, he brings these ideas to life through an
unforgettable auditory experience.
“In this track in particular, the
vocals have a new-wave feel on top of what is a very industrial rock kind of
instrumentation which gives the song a unique feel both stylistically and in
regards to genre,” shares Teraton of his latest single. “Lyrically, it’s
erratic, chaotic. It’s about cultural brainwashing. I wanted to describe that
feeling of wanting to remain asleep, instead of waking up to the reality that
we very rarely ever hear the truth. Now, more that ever, it’s something you
have to dig for, and most Americans are too lazy and apathetic to dig.”
When it comes to writing music,
Teraton is no stranger to hard work. This single in particular has 215 tracks!
“I think the process is first finding the hook, then building all the right
electronic sounds and samples that are going to work well together,” explains
Teraton. “The process is time consuming, it’s layer by layer. The mixing took
months, playing with different tracks to figure out how they can come and go
and be heard.”
“The full album I’m going to
release is industrial rock but certainly alternative rock and maybe electro or
tech industrial since most of the instruments are synthesized,” shares the
artist of the album he hopes to release later this year. The album will also
feature a longer version of “Hullaballoo.”
For now, Teraton is hyper-focused
on finishing his album—but that doesn’t mean he’s not thinking about the next
big thing. “I definitely want to shift into doing live shows once I have enough
material released” shares the artist. “I would like to take a more live band
approach, rather than one guy on stage pressing buttons and turning knobs like
a DJ. A guitarist, bassist, and drummer would be ideal. My music needs that
kinetic energy.” At the end of the day, it’s all about the music. “I think of
most of my songs are going to be cerebral; I think that’s a valuable thing.
Music should be able to make people think and not just feel—it’s a great thing
to do both.”

SINGER- SONGWRITER CLAIRE LEFTON TALKS NEW EP "RENAISSANCE WOMAN" PLUS MORE!
Claire Lefton expresses joys, tribulations of common folk in EP ‘Renaissance Woman’
CLAIRE LEFTON (33:02)
Claire Lefton expresses joys, tribulations of common folk in EP ‘Renaissance Woman’
By John Hacker
CINCINNATI, Ohio — With lyrics born of real experiences and a powerful voice inspired by the freedom and grace of 1990s female rock stars, Cincinnati-based singer-songwriter Claire Lefton is sending her second EP, “Renaissance Woman” out to the world on Oct. 7.
This five-track EP reflects the challenged feelings of an entire generation of young people who have endured unprecedented isolation for parts of the past two years of COVID-19 and the thoughts of someone who spent her isolation in sometimes tortured self-reflection and deep thought.
Lefton said she’s coping with her isolation by singing songs that express the emotions that many are feeling as we come out of this period of isolation into a future that has changed forever.
The
five songs on the EP include the track that gave the EP its name,
“Renaissance Woman,” and four others: “Cosmic Wind,” “The
Library,” “In the Sun,” and “Different Tracks, Different
Trains.”
“I’ve
had quite a year writing all of these songs over a time where there
was a lot of self-reflection because I’ve been pretty isolated
because of things like COVID,” Lefton said. “So it's been a lot
of how I process things and what I’m thinking about.
“A song like Renaissance Woman is how I’ve been very frustrated when you have to look at your body every day and judge it and you realize that body standards that have been imposed upon women. Women's bodies have been treated like a fashion statement. What is the ideal body now might not be the ideal body in like five to 10 years thanks to plastic surgery industry trying to profit on women’s insecurities and self-hatred.”
While some of the songs are introspective, other songs, like “The Library,” are Lefton’s frustration with attitudes of today.
“I wrote ‘The Library,’ as a sort of multi-perspective song about my frustrations with the rise in anti-intellectualism in America and the world at large,” she said. “It’s different people talking about the same event — basically this town burning down a library because they were told the people who wrote the books were heathens who didn’t know what they were actually talking about. I feel like it’s sort of where we’re at in a lot of ways. I wrote that one in a burst of frustration over several political things happening at once and I thought that was a good way to get it out of my system.”
“In the Sun,” was written after Lefton suffered a full-body sunburn during a day outside and came to the conclusion that Summer being the best of seasons was one of many lies people tell themselves.
“I have the very strong opinion that summer time is not actually the best season and we’ve been trained to like it the most as kids because that’s when summer break is,” Lefton said. “It’s sarcastic because I’m like oh, isn't it awesome when it’s like a thousand degrees and you go be out in the ocean and then you get salt in your eyes. I talk about how we tell ourselves it’s all fine when our boss screams at us at work about nothing because this is how it is and I need this job and things like that. It’s about the lies we regularly tell ourselves.”
The songs ‘Different Tracks, Different Trains,” and “Cosmic Winds” are different takes on feelings and relationships and dealing with people and their complications.
Lefton said the entire album is a story of self-reflection.
“It’s the thoughts I've been ruminating on for the last year or year and a half, especially when I’m alone and I spend a lot of time with these thoughts,” Lefton said. “It’s what comes to mind, what are the things that I think about the most and what are the things I feel compelled to express in a way? I really admired how a lot of the rocker women of the 90s were like free to express their thoughts and emotions in a way that was a little more messy than what came before and a lot afterward. This album is in that vein.”
Lefton said the colorful cover art for her EP is an original artwork created by her talented cousin, Zoe Nourie.

TMIKE STOPS BY AND TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW SINGLE "ALREADY MADE IT" PLUS MORE!
TMike, with a new single, ready to take his own mix of musical artistry out to the world
TMIKE (20:19)
By Kurt Beyers
He has made music that blends rap with guitar and with piano and with other instruments, because that is what music is for Fort Myers, Florida, artist TMike – a blend of instruments, genres, life, mood and moment.
For instance, his newest single, “Already Made It,” blends celebration and manifesto.
The celebrating is a party-beat rap about how far he has already come, and the manifesto is that the celebration is not going to replace the hard work of getting where he wants to go.
The first two lines of the first verse starts the celebration: “I done made the most I ever made / When I was struggling,” and a few lines later comes the determination: “Now I can’t stop for nothing / Too much money I can’t let it go.”
Asked what’s next, he said, “Really, just continuing to push, continuing to grind. The sky is the limit, and there's no time like now. So I'm gonna do as much as I can and see how far I can go.”
He started making music as a young child but didn’t take it seriously until about 2017. He has released four singles and two albums this year alone, but he has a lot more out and even more ready to go.
“Honestly,” he said, “I have a lot of unreleased music. I have enough music right now to release one song a week for the next three years.”
So, is that his plan?
“Depends on what happens, man. I'm trying to stay relevant. I'm trying to stay ready. I don't want to be caught with my pants down.”
Growing up, he listened to hip hop, R&B and gospel. Gospel is still a big part of him. “I grew up in the church,” he said. “I’m a God fearing man. I put God first. Without God, I’m nothing. That’s just the truth on my side.”
In college, he was introduced to a lot of different music, country, rock, “a lot of different types.” His music now he calls a “mashup” of everything he has been exposed to, the mainstream music of all kinds around him, how he feels when he goes in to the booth, what’s happening around him, all of it.
That’s how “Already Made It” came about. He was in the studio and, with his engineer and producer, was “going over ideas.” His engineer, Hero, had created a beat, “and I just felt the party vibe on it,” said TMike.
“And the way I was feeling, you know, I was looking back on my life and thinking about the things I overcame, and the things I went through to get to where I am already. And I felt like ‘Damn. I'm not even really started, I'm not even done yet, and I feel like I made it.’ I'm doing a lot of things I never would have thought I'd be able to do, and I'm accomplishing what I never would have expected me to accomplish in so short time.”
He doesn’t call himself a rapper. He is an artist who sings and is creative with sounds and feelings. When he goes into the booth, he said, “I let the mood guide me. I go with whatever happens in that moment, or whatever may going through in the studio that day.”
A lot of mixing goes on in his music. “Start of the Summer,” a single from 2019, features a machine-gun fast, explicit rap on top of a soft guitar melody. Another, “Wavy,” also features a hard-core rap, but this one is mixed with a wandering, speculative kind of melody played on a soft, flute-like instrument.
Asked about that one, and what that instrument was, he laughed. “I don't even know that instrument, but I fell in love with the sound and I told Hero he had to put it in,” he said.
And another single from earlier this year, “JPay,” features piano. That one was inspired by Pink Floyd’s album Dark Side of the Moon.
“Backside of the Moon was like a classic album and, as an artist, you got to listen to things like that, just because it's music and it's, you know, classified as legendary.”
TMike, his engineer and producer create his beats together.
“I try my best to like make my lyrics a dance with the instrumental. I want everything to be intertwined, you know, seamlessly, so when you listen to it you really enjoy it. I was a fan before I started making music, so I try to put what I love from music into mine.”

FOLK & BLUES RECORDING ARTIST ROYCE DEZORZI STOPS BY AND TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW RECORD "DENVER" AND MUCH MORE!
Royce DeZorzi’s Album Denver Pays Homage to His Adoptive State
By Gabby Cast
ROYCE DEZORZI (32:36)
Step into the mind of an Americana artist, and what you’ll see is the horizon of the West coast and the illustrious Mountain state terrains that evoke chords balancing between bluegrass and folk.
Royce DeZorzi’s music paints an image of those same sonic landscapes. On his upcoming album, Denver, he nods to the mountain city where he shaped his sound while also paying homage in parting, as he soon relocates to Nashville, TN.
“I’ve ended up on the outside looking in from a lot of past relationships, friendships, and musical partnerships. During recording, I found myself in the right space to sit down and reflect on some things I’ve learned and experienced here,” says DeZorzi, “and, just as importantly, say thank you and goodbye.”
DeZorzi’s journey started near Annapolis, MD, where he grew up in a military family. As a child, the family moved to Augusta, GA. After the passing of his brother Alex, a passionate guitarist, he inherited the instrument, which sat in a closet for a year before he tried to sell it to a friend. Instead of purchasing the guitar, the friend showed DeZorzi how to play, and he was hooked.
Shortly thereafter, DeZorzi traveled to Western Colorado, spending the next several years working on farms and playing solo in forgotten corners of the American Southwest.
After relocating to Denver in 2017, acoustic compositions took a back seat to electronic-leaning group improvisations, resulting in the New Freedom Movement LP and VISIONS (2020). These experimental offerings highlight DeZorzi’s sensibilities as a band leader and electric guitarist. Now, as a solo artist, he’s going back to the basics and exploring the vulnerabilities of acoustic guitar.
“I guess that was where I had started on the guitar and couldn’t escape it. I fell in love with playing solo, where you get the space to compose orchestrally and improvise freely,” explains DeZorzi. “But the fingerpicking thing always felt a little old-timey to me, and for a few years I put the acoustic down.”
The album’s title track explores traditional folk and blues idioms through DeZorzi’s unique style, and his emotive playing lets listeners interpret its meaning. No vocals — simply the echoing catharsis of DeZorzi’s solitude. Denver is a snapshot of the city he’s called home, weaving threads of his own experience into the tapestry of the plains, mountains, and sunsets that dance across the Front Range.
“There’s nowhere to hide in this kind of music; it’s very stripped down,” says DeZorzi, “and for me, it always evokes the same relaxing space.”
The voyage to Nashville will be Royce DeZorzi’s next story. He is planning a US tour in support of the album, which is set to be released on September 1st.
Denver is set to be released on September 1st. To stay up to date on DeZorzi’s upcoming tour and other releases, be sure to check out the links below.
