TRIP TO HOUSTON, TX

It's been a great trip to Houston thus far. I spent the majority of today with my friend Ronnie Shields, and with former world champ Juan Diaz. We hung out at Savannah's gym, then enjoyed a meal in Galveston. Will tour the Nasa space center in Houston tomorrow, then check out the US Navy Blue Angels air show on Saturday. Also, today I along with Ronnie Shields attended a press conference for cruiserweight Felix Cora. 8CountNews will have full interviews posted with both Juan Diaz, and Felix Cora in a few days.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW CPR YOU NEED TO LEARN IT

Folks, if you don't know CPR than I highly suggest that you take a class and learn it. I was the first person on scene, drove up on a bad two car accident about a mile from my house. Thank God I didn't have to use CPR, but as I was pulling this young ladies car door open, the steps flashed through my head. You never know what is going to happen in life, things happen when you least expect them.

Words of support for those who struggle with weight and other issues

To any of my readers that struggle with weight, I offer these encouraging words. Almost 3 months ago, I went to my doctor for a check up. I have been struggling with a blood sugar issue, and have had some bouts of depression over the years. For those who have experienced clinical depression, you get on some pretty bad lows at times. Those who can relate to depression know all too well that being on a low from depression makes you want to eat. The food acts as your anti depressant, so you eat to feel good again. You get on highs and lows with this shit, so it's a hard thing to cope with at times. Dealing with everyday life, plus dealing with clinical depression is no small task. The depression is one thing, then mix in ignorant hypocrites that feel compelled to exploit ones issues, is another.

I know how you feel if you are reading this, and you have the daily fight with depression and weight issues. It's important to do a few things if you are fighting this good fight. Firstly, surround yourself with good people. It's extremely important to place people into your life that truly care about you. Get rid of those who do not have your better interest at heart. You will need to have the right people by your side to lift you up, and to encourage you to strive for excellence, and to do better. Remember this, you will have those types of people who get their kicks out of degrading you. They will take their childish cheap shots at you, but just keep moving forward. It's usually the case when you have people that insult you, that they have much bigger issues than you do. Of course they will not admit it because A - they are too stupid, or B - they let their self arrogance cloud any positive energy that they may have within themselves.

So surround yourself with good, positive, uplifting people. In order to lose weight there's no getting out of it, you must exercise. You also must change your diet, and eat healthy. Cut out soft drinks (sugar), and drink water instead. Workout 6 days a week and take one day off to rest up. I have been fortunate to have hooked up with boxing trainer Ronnie Shields, and the best conditioning coach, (Brian Caldwell) in the country. Both guys have rallied to my side and have encouraged me, motivated me. I have lost 30 pounds in less than 3 months. I have a workout plan, and a meal plan that I follow to the letter.

Remember the saying that I live by, "Success breeds hate" it's so true. When those who have told you that you will fail in life see that you're doing the opposite, they despise it. I had a person tell me one time, "Brad we both know that you will never be a writer." I don't know, I may not be the best writer in the world by any stretch, but putting out a book, and writing for two national boxing magazines pretty much squashed that person's opinion of me. They of course still probably feel that way, but you know what? Let them, let them drown in their own self arrogance.

Also, remember this also. Remember that you yourself are not perfect either. One of the biggest pieces of advice that I can give you is to always look inward before you look outward. I myself have done things in my life that I regret now. At the time my instinct would be to look outward, and blame someone else. Through some years I have learned that looking inward first is important. I encourage ALL of you to look inward first.

Stop being hypocritical. This is a biggie, and all of us have been guilty of this from time to time. I have had someone preach biblical things to me in emails, then turn around and call someone the "N" word. I have been told that I have an ego, yet that same person jumps at every chance to stroke his feathers for all to see. Work on less hypocritical tendencies, and be more humble.

Be humble. I have really worked hard on this one. I strive to be humble, because that is how God wants us to be. Being humble is so much healthier. I was once told by a woman that I should quit as a boxing website owner if I think other boxing sites are better. What an arrogant way to think. I truly believe that www.fightnews.com is the best boxing site on the web. They have 100's of correspondence all over the world. They are the fastest website in the world getting the fans fight results. To me, they are the best. Do I think 8CountNews will be as good as Fightnews one day? Absolutely, one day it very well may be. So stay humble, and be true to yourself.

Remember that most people that insult your looks have bigger issues than you do internally - For crying out loud just tell them to act their age, and move forward, keep moving forward. I have had grown adults that created blogs, myspace sites, fake emails, called me fat, photoshopped photos of me, the list goes on. Folks, this is coming from 30 and 40 year old adults lol. More than likely their own children are more mature than they are. Don't let this behavior stop you. I am guessing that certain people will read this, and once again run to my examiner page and drop more goo goo gah gah lines. Who cares? let them. Back to that, "Success breeds hate" saying again? Yep.

So far everything that my detractors have said that I wouldn't do or be, I have done. From writing a book, to writing for magazines, to creating and building a successful boxing website, judging fights, promoting fights you name it, I have done it. In fact, if I didn't have my little hater group, I may not have achieved the things that I have achieved. Use the hate as your fuel to succeed, and nothing can stop you. Remember that every time that someone spends their time on negativity towards you, is time they will never get back. Use that negative time spent on you, and make it a positive for yourself.

Email me your thoughts, and share with me your stories. I'll post them on this blog from time to time. Email bradcooney1@comcast.net

God Bless,

Brad C

Me with friend Ronnie Shields and my conditioning coach Brian Caldwell

Life is short, so when you meet a few people that truly care about you, it means something. So far through hard work, and a couple of great friends, I have been able to lose 27 pounds. World renowned boxing trainer Ronnie Shields and one of the best conditioning coaches in the world, Brian Caldwell have both supported me in my quest to lose weight. Getting healthy has been my focus for over 2 months now. My blood pressure is back to normal, my blood sugar level is nearly normal, and my weight has been trimmed by 27 pounds.
