GUILT BY ASSOCIATION - A MESSAGE TO MY READERS

Life is full of mistakes, some bigger than others. My mistakes? Yep, I have made my share of them. One of those mistakes was to be associated with www.boxingtalk.com for as long as I was. It has come to my attention that there were fabricated chatroom sessions with named fighters while I was writing for them. It has come to my attention that fighters that were interviewed had their words changed when the interviews were typed up. Several other dealings that happened while I was writing for them happened. All of these things that are alleged happened without my knowing about it. My reputation has taken a hit because I was associated with the site when these things alledgedly happened. I since have quit Boxingtalk.com and now write for Boxingconfidential.com. I am guilty by association, and I will do my best to prove to ya'll that I had nothing to do with what was going on at Boxingtalk.com - There are still a few individuals in the business that relish when I am down. SAD, truly sad. I wish them well though.

WHEN OUR FATHERS PASS By Brad Cooney

You know? I recently saw a beautiful tribute that a boxing writer published about his father. I lost my father about a year and a half ago, and I miss him terribly. When I read this writers tribute to his dad (God rest his soul), I was moved. Sometimes when I think about my dad, I will look up, and ask him, "pops, did I make the right move on that one?" It's funny, even with a year and a half gone by since my dad checked into heaven, I still hope that he's proud of me. I think we all should remember our parents when they pass, and continue to behave in a way that would make them proud.

THE LATEST HYPE? IT'S NO LONGER A FIGHT By Brad Cooney

It's amazing what two people can accomplish with a phone call and some civil communication. That's just what Fighthype's Ben Thompson and I did this evening. As bad as my two little friends over at that other site wish for it to be a war or a fight, it's just not in the cards anymore. Ben and I talked things out, and discovered what we really already knew, we are on the same page with everything. There will be a new post in the fighthype forums by tomorrow that will clear things up, and as bad as the other two fellas want to be posting comments using Hype's name, they won't be able to once the new post goes up. It's obvious that I must threaten this OTHER website enough as to where they spend their time on me, rather than trying to prevent their Alexa ratings from crash landing to a flatline situation.

SHAUN GEORGE VS CHRIS BYRD MAY 16TH ON ESPN

Shaun George vs Chris Byrd May 16th On ESPN!

For Immediate Release

For years, Shaun George has waited patiently for his chance to rise to the top of his division. His journey comes to a head on May 16, when the Brooklyn native faces former two-time heavyweight champion Chris Byrd on ESPN's Friday Night Fights in Las Vegas, NV. The fight will be contested at the light-heavyweight limit of 175 pounds.

"This opportunity means everything to me," says George, 16-2-2 (7 KO). "I'm ready for this step up on May 16. I've been waiting for this kind of fight my whole life. I believe I'm a better fighter and I'm ready to prove it. I know I'm the underdog, but I also know I will come out on top."

Shaun George is currently riding a three-fight winning streak following a dubious decision loss to Alexander Gurov in his opponent's home country. During his last fight, George shut out difficult journeyman Thomas Reid over ten rounds. Reid was a late-replacement for Eric Harding, who withdrew the week of the fight. George was a decorated amateur, winning two New York Golden Glove titles, as well as US National Amateur and Junior Olympic titles. He is trained by the venerable Tommy Brooks and promoted by Hall of Fame Promotions.

George's adversary, whose impressive mark reads 40-4-1 (21 KO), is no slouch either. Byrd has posted victories over heavyweight mainstays David Tua, Vitali Klitschko, Fres Oquendo and Evander Holyfield, among others. A silver medalist in the 1992 Olympics Games, "Rapid Fire" is a sure-fire future Hall of Famer.

"I know he's fast and that he fights intelligently," George concedes. "That doesn't concern me. It won't be about what Chris Byrd can do, but what I can do. This is my time to shine, Chris Byrd just happens to be the opponent set before me.

Shaun George's manager, Hall of Fame inductee Lou Duva, is confident with his fighter's prospects. "I've never seen him this excited about a fight before," says George's manager Lou Duva. "He wants this win, he's training to win and he's going to win.

"I know what this kid's abilities are. Shaun is a good, strong light heavyweight. He throws a lot of combinations and does what it takes to win. I like everything I see about him."

A recent press release issued by the Byrd camp made mention of Byrd's post-George intentions. George says his only concern is on the challenge he has signed to face. "He can look past me all he wants, talking about fighting Jones, Tarver and Calzaghe. My only focus is on the fight in front of me."

Adds George, "The light heavyweight division is the best division in boxing and this fight will show why. I'm bringing my A game and I expect him to do the same."

The Shaun George-Chris Byrd bout is promoted by Banner Promotions.

THE TRUTH BEHIND THE HYPE - NO STONE UNTURNED

Ok, since Ben Thompson decided to drag me into his war with Leon, I have had yet another round of defending my integrity once again. Here's the truth about Ben Thompson of Fighthype.com, and how I got involved in all of this. TRUTH number 1 - I received an email from Ben Thompson, WHO KNOWS HOW LONG AGO, and I even forgot what it said, but I messed up and forwarded that email to Greg Leon and I shouldn't have. I apologized to Ben Thompson more than once for doing it, because I felt bad for doing it to the guy. He never accepted my apology, and that's fine, I made the apology and moved on. This was like a year ago, or more.

OK, that was my F up. When I resigned from Boxingtalk the first time, I had a fight with Greg Leon, because he wasn't paying me what I thought he should, he had my video tapes of interviews that I did with fighters, and I wanted them back. Leon and I went back and forth in emails fighting. I didn't know it at the time, but Leon was fowarding my emails to Ben Thompson, (at the time Thompson and Leon were on good terms). NOW 2 YEARS LATER... Thompson (HYPE) and Greg Leon are at war again. Allegedly, HYPE used copyrighted Boxingtalk content for his site, and Leon taxed him for it. Hype has his reasons for being pissed at Leon as well. SO... What does Hype do?, he posts all of my emails that I sent to Greg (2 YEAR OLD EMAILS) I might add, to expose Leon on how he treated me. AT MY EXPENSE.

Some may say, WELL BRAD, YOU DESERVED IT BECAUSE YOU FORWARDED AN EMAIL THAT THOMPSON SENT TO YOU TO GREG LEON. I say bullthit! not this kind of payback. THOMPSON posted my emails, and now every F'ing boxing forum on the internet is reading them, and twisting things around, and now I have even been accused of being a conman. LMAO -

I post ALL of the AUDIOS of my interviews as many of you know HERE - http://www.myspace.com for you to listen to, so I have PROOF that my interviews are real. BEN THOMPSON is GUILTY of VERY SIMILAR things that he says I am. This guy emails Dan Horgan (writer) and offers the guy assistance with his website, and is all nice, then blasts Horgan in his forums for an article that Horgan did on Jesus Chavez. HYPOCRITE?? BEN THOMPSON is good at posting emails on his message boards, and I am sure the punk ass will post this one, and probably the emals that I sent to Leon 2 years ago... but I don't care they are all out there anyway. SO you people make up your minds.. HYPE is no angel, and he's a bitch for doing what he did.

EXPLORING MY OPTIONS, AND THERE ARE MANY - Brad Cooney

Since I announced my resignation from Boxingtalk.com I have had several offers from a plethora of boxing websites. I will explore these options, and make a decision by Friday. I am humbled by the response that I have gotten thus far, and to be honest, it really felt good. Having dealt with that other site, and the recent situation at Fighthype.com that I was brought into (UNPROVOKED)it's nice to be reminded that there are still some good people in the industry. I'll keep you updated...

THE STINGRAY KICKS OFF NEW SEASON OF ESPN's WNF!

Memphis-TN-March 26, 2008. For sport fans, it doesn't get much better than this. The NCAA holds their basketball championships, the PGA holds the classic Master's golf tournament, and ESPN returns with their exciting installment of Wednesday Night Fights.

For the third year in row, ESPN2 will feature the electrifying and UNDEFEATED flyweight Rayonta “The Stingray” Whitfield (20-0, 10 KO's) as he continues to climb his way to superstardom in a 12-round IBF and WBO title eliminator. The #2 ranked flyweight in the world and Augusta native will take on top-ten flyweight contender Manuel Vargas (24-2, 10 KO's) Wednesday, April 9th at the Bell Auditorium in Augusta, Georgia to kick off the new season of ESPN2's Wednesday Night Fights.

2007 was a stellar year for “the Stingray” and his promoter Prize Fight Boxing as Whitfield scored two impressive knockouts before the second round drew to a close. “The Stingray” also made a statement last year when he took three rugged and determined veteran fighters into deep waters winning each of those fights on all three judges' scorecards.

However, Vargas is in no stretch of the imagination a pushover, and is certain to give “the Stingray” and the fight fans their money's worth. With the Mexican native on a seven year, twenty-three fight win streak, and with many of Vargas' knockout victims never making it past the third round, this be a grueling test of power and will for both warriors. The very same week in Augusta when Tiger Woods and golf's greatest players will be competing for one of golf's greatest prize, the legendary green jacket at the Master's, both Whitfield and Vargas will be battling it out, knowing a victory on April 9th will propel them to the number one spot and earn them a well-deserved mandatory shot at the IBF and WBO Flyweight Titles.

In classic Prize Fight Boxing fashion, this exciting fight card is stacked from top to bottom with undefeated fighters willing to put their perfect records on the line to prove that they are one to be reckoned with in the fight game. UNDEFEATED junior welterweight prospect Ty Barnett (13-0, 9 KO's), having just come off an amazing year by knocking out all but one of his opponents in '07 will be facing Christopher Fernandez (15-4, 9 KO's) in an 8-round co-feature bout. Both of Fernandez's wins last year ended with an impressive stoppage, and he is eager to take Barnett's “O” in a knock down drag out barn burner if need be.

Also on the card, exciting stand out Mark Davis (5-0, 3 KO's) and Sadat Vazquez (3-1, 1 KO) are set to duke it out in a junior lightweight match-up as well as white hot prospect Fernando Guerrero (3-0, 3 KO's), who will be placing his eye-catching and undefeated record on the line against unpredictable Valentino Jalomo (2-2, 1 KO).

Two fights on the card will pin undefeated versus undefeated where someone's “O” has to go. In a six round lightweight battle, Chris Howard (5-0, 2 KO's) will face Anthony Smith 3-0 (1 KO), while Demarcus Young (2-0, 2 KO's), the promising cruiserweight prospect who shares his birthplace of Aiken, South Carolina with former 147-pound champ Paul Williams will be taking on Mark Johnson (1-0) in a four round slugfest to open the show.

With this amazing fight card taking place in Augusta the same week as the Master's, tickets are already moving fast with some of today's biggest sport celebrities and wildest sport fans in town for the golf classic. Do not miss this opportunity to see an incredible night of action both in and out of the ring!

BOXINGTALK.COM RESIGNATION By Brad Cooney

How ugly people can be in the boxing industry... my oh my, it's just amazing. There's a war going on between Greg Leon of Boxingtalk.com and Ben Thompson of Fighthype.com and yours truly got dragged into the middle of it. Ben Thompson decided that he would post several emails that I sent to Greg Leon onto his message boards in an act to expose Greg Leon. This with all of the bullshit that I had to deal with, with that OTHER site, and frankly, I am just tired. All this writer wants to do is to interview the warriors that step into the ring, and do so without having to deal with the ugly politics, and personal wars that go on beneath the radar.

Can you believe that a grown 40 yr old man who owns a website and is a self proclaimed perfectionist called me "slim" and talked about me eating too many twinkies? Fat jokes? Are you kidding me? This is something a 5 yr old would do, but a 40 yr old? pretty amazing. It appears that the venom that some people retain, and won't let go of is abundant.

I have resigned from Boxingtalk.com and will pop back up shortly somewhere where I can get back to enjoying what I do. Boxingtalk has mad potential, and it's owner Greg Leon will coninue to bring big time interviews to you there. I left for my own reasons, and have no hard feelings towards Boxingtalk. I'll keep you posted when and where I will be back. Keep it here though, I'll be updating and posting some interviews here as well.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER GIVES BACK TO THE KIDS

Mayweather donates to amateurs!
Floyd covers cost of National Golden Gloves in hometown

April 2, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Floyd Mayweather donated $140,000 to the West Michigan Sports Commission to pay the projected operating budget for the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions taking place in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan from May 5 through May 10.

The tournament is being hosted by Michigan Golden Gloves, the non-profit organization through which Mayweather took his first steps to launching what is now recognized as one of the most highly decorated careers in the sport of boxing.

Mayweather, who plans to attend the tournament's opening ceremonies on May 4, is ecstatic about helping out. "This is an opportunity to recognize the organization that got my career started," said Mayweather. "If there is anything worth putting my money towards it is the Michigan Golden Gloves, who have been helping kids excel in the sport of boxing for years. I truly believe and hope there is a kid out there can be as good, if not better than, me."

In addition to covering the cost of the event, Mayweather's generosity will now make it possible for Tournament officials to extend gratuitous tickets to under-privileged kids in the area, who would have been unable to pay to watch the three-day event.

"Not only can we give some deserving kids tickets to attend, but his generosity will enable us to take the proceeds from the tournament and continue our work with amateur fighters in the State who could end up having a career path similar to his," said Dave Packer, Executive Director of Michigan Golden Gloves.

"Floyd wanted to financially support the program he started his amateur boxing career with and acknowledge their long-standing and deep commitment to young fighters throughout the state looking to find a career in the sport," said Mayweather’s manager Leonard Ellerbe. "Floyd feels he is in the position he is in today because of the Golden Gloves Tournament and his amateur success in the Michigan boxing program."
